Banned from chats forever?
Hey guys! We all make mistakes do we not?
After about 2 months of being here on the 7Cups group chats, where I spent most of my time listening to other people and talking to them (which is the purpose of the group chats). Yesterday, I upset a couple of people in the teen Community Room, by acting like a Mod, and warning everyone about the slightest bit of an offense to the chat room rules as possible. Of course the Mods were all angry because of my antics, and the people in the chat didn't take the joke well either, so people started Muting and Reporting me right? Yeah yeah, I understand why the people would do that, I was acting immature and inconsiderate of the people in the chat room by taking up the valuable space and mood in a chat room which could have hosted much more supportive conversations in the event that I did not choose to act immature and inconsiderate... Of course it is a bad idea to make fun of the Mods (even indirectly, as I did), and there many ways to promote my point of view (Which is: Mods, if you want members to be nice to you, be nice to them, and Mods, don't ban everyone, we are not all just the worst people to ever be on the site...) in a more constructive and productive manner. I take blame Hmmkay? Im guilty.
However, I do not think that I should be perma-banned, as in the 97.5% of the situations, I am actually trying to help people, and am doing my best. I also believe that this perma-ban was a product of not the Mods trying to create the safe and supportive environment, but rather a product of the Mod's ego being hurt because I was making fun of them.
Anyway, now that you understand the situation, here is the actual question. How can I appeal this ban? Because I don't want to get the metaphorical sentence of life in prison for this one little offense... Its silly. How do I do it? I don't think I am a bad influence for the chats, I have a lot of friends that I talk to on there.
(This thread has a high chance of either being ignored, or being removed by a Moderator, so be thankful that you had a chance to read it) ;)
I think you're screwed man. If you're banned from the chats then thats it. Emailing 7 cups never works at all and that ain't youre fault. Mods need to chill because they don't think muting and warning is serious at all even though its very serious.
Hi there.
I can't speak for all mods and their actions, but I can tell you that we are specifically told and instructed not to talk about warnings too much out in the open, and we use the warning system as a way to be private and discrete about any violation of the chatroom rules, rather than creating a situation of publicly shaming members, or ruining a good discussion with acting all petty :) We don't wanna do that. Sorry it may have been a difficult situation for you, and I hope it would get a bit better in the future. We're always working on making the situation better in the chatrooms and throughout the website, and we're all learning, always.
Regarding your particular situation, since you're here on the website, you can see that you haven't been banned. That means that all that's happened is that you've been muted. I'm assuming you haven't noticed this, but the notification about being muted after a third warning does specify that the global chat mute last for 24 hours, nothing more. So there is no need to send an email or anything like that, you're all good, you should be able to chat as you did until now by tomorrow! :)
Hope this helps, and again, I'm very sorry that you've had a bad experience with fellow mods and in the chatroom. Hopefully this will resolve itself when you'd get back to chatting. :)
Pfft Yeah, now I just sound stupid for speaking too soon
To justify my stupidity, I never got a second and third warning, and never had 24 hour mute window appear. Further more, 26 hours after I know I've been muted, I checked on the website by saying hello, no one replied, so I checked again by saying "am I muted?" , no one replied. I then again refreshed the site, and my messages weren't there.
Now taking into consideration that I never saw a site ban people for only two or three days, and that one of my friends have gotten totally booted forever for an offense just like this, the only conclusions I can come to is that I've been banned for a week a month, a year, or forever, with forever being very likely.
No I've explained my reasoning because else I will feel stupid (Now it's more like Reasonably stupid) , let's get to my point. I haven't gotten an answer. You know how Mods are humans too, and they make mistakes? Yeah, so some might think there is an appeal process somehow... What do you do if you have been banned by a strict and inexperienced mod, and you feel as if the mod"s decision was wrong? isnt there such a thing? Where is it?
@Halymi - From what I can see, you should be able to participate in the group chats right now. Please mail community@7cups.com or PM me if this is not the case and we can look into this further.
Hi @Halymi! The best way to appeal a mute or a ban is to email community@7cups.com. Please remember to allow a little time for a response—our community managers are very hardworking but have a huge community to handle and sometimes it will take a few days to receive a response from them.
I also invite you to take a look at this post by Heather about how Warnings and Mutes work. If you feel that the way you were muted (as Em noticed you were only muted, not banned from the site, which is good news! So long as you can log into your account, you're not banned from the site) didnt follow the correct procedure or that you were muted unfairly, you should definitely send an email to have the situation investigated! You can also review any moderators that you felt were abusing their power or acting unprofessionally during this incident by using the moderator review form. If this was your first mute, the mute should last only 24 hours, but you're definitely still able to appeal it and report the moderators involved if you feel they were acting out of turn. I hope this situation is sorted out for you as soon as possible!
Dude listen to a member himself. Email rarely works
