I have a question(s) before I ask a bigger question

Since I don't/can't use the therapy option, can someone describe to me what it's like? Does connecting with a therapist mean that you must meet them in person at some point (it implies that since their cities are listed), or is it possible to to be exclusively online (in the cases of people who live in remote areas who can't get to a therapist)? If the latter is true, do they have to be geographically near you? Also building off the implied meeting, are phone or video sessions a thing?

I'm sorry if it's a stupid complicated multi part question but I kinda need to know.

Not a silly question at all. smiley From my understanding, it is all onsite therapy, but @LaraG would likely be the best person to ask about this. @Laura would also be someone that likely could explain things. (Hopefully they'll both come take a look wih being tagged now and they'll be able to give you a definite answer.)

@Phthalo Having therapy or counselling usually involves you meeting with a counsellor at an agreed time and place, mainly weekly though this can vary. In the initial assessment and appointment, a counsellor should set out what they can offer, and an agreement drawn up between you in terms of how long the session is, whether the counselling is free or has a set price, discussion about contact between sessions, confidentiality etc. Therapy and counselling can be done online, and I know some counsellors do offer online counselling, but always be sure to check out their credentials. Try and opt for counselors who are registered with an organisation and who have the appropriate qualifications. Check out what kind of approach they use therapeutically and also what areas they offer counselling in. Sometimes people try several counsellors before they feel they click with someone they can feel able to work with. There is low cost counselling, free counselling and private counselling available to people. Some people may also decide to speak with a medical professional and request a referal for counselling.

@dancingRainbow45 I guess I should have specified better, I meant the therapy option on this site. Does what you just said apply to that?

@Phthalo I was talking more generally about counselling and therapy and the different ways and approaches that can be taken. I see that Laura has now responded with regards the therapy at 7 cups. so I hope this has helped to answer your questions/concerns etc :)

@Phthalo

All 7 cups therapy is conductec on 7 Cups & we ask all members who sign up for therapy to agree that they reside in the state where the therapist is licensed.

Our therpists will not connect via phone, video chat or in person with their members.

hope this helps!

@Moj

Yes! She actually is mostly on her therapist account these days & doesn't get the @LaraG tag! We need to start tagging her therapist name....

@Phthalo I subscribed to your topic as soon as I saw it. There's the 'how does it work side', but also the more descriptive aspect to. I would love to hear from someone who has used it. Especially if they have previously had face to face therapy.

I don't want specifics of their individual therapy session, but I would like to hear about whether they felt like they were given something to work on each day, how many messages felt equivalent to a therapy session, etc.
