If you said no and they continued you should just block them, they don't have the right to see your picture
[Note for others - sharing photos of ourselves is allowed, I'm just answering based on my personal comfort level].
In a group chat, I would probably just say I'm not comfortable sharing one. If the person asks again I might tell them to back off and would mute if they start to pester me.
In a 1-1 it really depends on how the chat is going, but I would find this request to be odd. If there were already questions that seemed to fall within a grey area I would block and report. If the listener was being supportive I would probably ask why they are requesting a picture of me.
@AffyAvo yes definetly allowed aslong as the pics are appropiate and of course you feel comfortable showing who you are
and if i was asked id say i have a pic on my picture on here thats all im willing to show and then re direct the conversation bk to the member
If it wasn't applicable to the current discussion (as with fashion or gender expression or something similar in an offering support sort of sense like with people who want feedback) I'd probably ask them to stop. If they persist I'd report them and then block them. Everyone signs up to be a member or listener should be aware of TOS and the anonymous design of the site so asking for your likeness can be both rude in situations it wasn't called for and may be a sign they won't respect other boundries in persisting past first refusal.
If you do choose to send a photo, keep in mind that the ways they use it may not match what they've told you it will be used for and that once things are online it can remain online forever without you knowing or being able to do much about it. Of course at all times be cautious of anyone asking for personally identifable info like your real name, phone number, physical address, etc. Trust is a good thing which can aid the help giving process but a healthy level of boundry setting is wise because identity theft and other crimes can happen even in the best of places.
What do I do?
I don't. I simply don't send any picture.
Plus that's easy because I don't know how to send a picture in a chat - and I don't want to know, b/c then I can tell the person, "I don't know how to do that." with complete honesty.
Also, isn't this against the rules somewhere? Maybe not. ~ Platy
