I like this idea!
@Joe2017 - I think it's possible, sure. I don't like our editors now. They are very "old school" -- I prefer inline editing where possible.
Right now we use some sort of package with some features turned on. I don't know if it has a source mode but I can look into that.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
I'm actually quite fond of this editor, just not a fan of the placement.. I feel like it'd be better if it were to appear in the card of the post you're replying to. A site I working with atm used to use it, until we updated to whatever we have now. We did have the source editor enabled, so i'm sure it's possible to enable it here?
I guess it's whether you guys would like to have it enabled or not. It's nothing huge, just saves me from going into inspect to add stuff LOL
@Joe2017 - heehee
In my version I fixed some things that weren't working (including blockquote and source editing), and I've been using it in the forums this week. Here it is in case anyone else would like to try it.
It requires Tampermonkey in your browser, and then this userscript: Forum inline editor
It replaces the popup for Post to Thread, Reply, and Create New Thread. When the editor is active, any Reply button in the thread will scroll back to the editor.
There are likely to be many bugs—I haven't even tried all the buttons yet—so consider this to be a working demo. There might be occasional updates.

@Joe2017
It would be nice to be able to embed a Youtube video. It looks like there are plugins for that. I might try them. Meanwhile, brute force might or might not work. . .let's see:
@RarelyCharlie
Nope
@RarelyCharlie
@RarelyCharlie - I've been playing with this setup. Very comfy, thanks for doing it.
Will show it to devteam to ask them what if anything prevents us from making this universal.
I've only just noticed this thread!
The current editor (CKEditor) supports source code (HTML) editing and inline editing. These features are disabled by 7 Cups for no obvious reason.
I useTampermonkey to re-enable all the editor features, and I once made it do inline editing just to demonstrate that it can be done, but to be honest I almost never actually use any additional features.
In my opinion, the most important issues that adversely affect our forums are spam and censorship.
@RarelyCharlie
Ahh, I didn't know that it could be done on our end, that's good to know.
`I don't think many would use the other features, which is probably why they're disabled, I can only assume many less would use the source editor.
Things like text-align and tables should definitely be enabled, in my opinion.
You're 100% correct though, there are other more issues to deal with first, but it'd be cool to see a few changes to editor, or just a whole new editor altogether
