Member Statuses!
Hiya, lovelies!
Me and the wonderful @EnigmaForte have decided to pair up and discuss the possible future update of members having statuses!
This feature is already available for listeners displaying as: red = offline, orange = busy and green = online.
[Note: this allows Listeners to manually choose whether they are available to talk to people in Private Messages.
If they are set to:
Online, which means that the listener is free to take General Requests which are made by clicking the Connect Now button.
Busy, which means that the listener is active, but may not be able to respond to Private Messages immediately.
Offline, which means that the listener is either not available for chats or are using their member account to seek support for themselves. ]
Some of the positives of this feature are:
~ This gives members the opportunity to let listeners know when they want to talk and need support - instead of being offered it when they are busy doing something else in the community. E.g. forum, feed or group support chats.
~ It reminds listeners of boundaries. If a member is not ready to talk about an issue, they can set their status to Offline to allow themselves a break.
This idea has been submitted to the Suggestions Box several times and wed like to hear your thoughts surrounding it! - Please remember this is a respectful discussion with the whole community, let us listen to others and put our opinions across in a kind manner.

Chiming in here, i agree. I think we need this. Members deserve to dictacte their experience here more. It has long been a suggestion box item. I have advocated to our admin team for it, but have not made headway yet. I will continue to advocate to get this created!

Hey Blossom and all,
I thought this site had it when I first started back on it again. Was shocked when I couldn't really set that parameter when it was just sitting there.
The app would be up on my phone or I would simply have the site active and reading articles or doing my path stuff while doing other things and forget about it. It would simply say I was online, and then a listener would try to talk with me or something. I mean, it was a listener I was struggling with and they would be rather persistent. In those times, I didn't want to be rude to them and instead would have loved some kinda thing to just say I was busy or offline. Then again, it's a good opportunity for enforcing boundaries, I guess. Others have already kinda stated this.
In a more standard scenario, it would be useful as well. I'm getting a friend(member) on here to help me with mathematics and give me tutoring, essentially. They live in a different timezone, and we'd be meeting in a chat room or posting in the student support forum... it would be nice to see if they were online or not. Then I would know if I needed to tag them real quick or what not.
OH! And dunno if this will be taken into consideration- but some sites with DV resources or stuff like that... they'll have a visible exit button or escape button where it will go to Google or something else for those who are in tumultuous situations that are trying to receive support or find resources or literature relevant to their situation. Thought it might be a good idea on here. I come from a situation where I have to keep a low key to put it politely.

@blossombreathe I like the idea! I think that Member statuses might be used a bit differently than Listener statuses, but statuses do reinforce the idea that members are under no obligation to ever respond to a listener if they don't want to (this is true even if a member's status is "online"). Good work, team!
I think this is a really great suggestion. It would make it easier to tailor help to the member's needs and get him or her help when it's more urgent. Setting boundaries for talking is important, too.
