Overview Video - Would Love Feedback!

People come to 7 cups when they are going through a rough patch. Part of what we are doing with this next version is we are making it easier for people to keep taking steps on their recovery path so they can get stronger. However, before people even start a chat, there are some issues we need to address in order to increase the chances that people continue to move forward and grow stronger. Here are the main issues:

1. People may have a good chat, leave, and then struggle again because the negative people and/or circumstances just weigh them down. They don't necessarily know that part of being healthy and growing stronger includes taking steps or practicing exercises daily.

2. People are anxious and don't know what to expect from the chat.

3. People get a less than awesome listener and do not realize that they can select another listener.

If we can address these 3 issues before a person starts a chat, then we increase the chances of helping them recover. The below video is designed to address each of these problems. It is long now, but imagine sections 1:13 - 1:24 and 2:52 - 3:03 being removed. So it'd be right around 3 minutes.

In terms of the flow of where you'd see the video - it'd work like this:

You come to the site and you have 2 options. You can click exercise or you can click chat. If you click exercise, then this is the first step on the exercise path. See the new design thread here for details. If you select chat, then you'd go to the private room just as you do now. Noni would then say, "Welcome to 7 Cups. We are looking for a listener for you right now. It'll take a few minutes. Please watch this brief video to better understand how 7 Cups works and how we can help you." Then, in the private room you'd see the video with a play button on it. You'd then hit play and the video would play. At the end of the video you'd be connected with your listener. This would only happen the first time you came to 7 cups.

Okay, here are some questions. Please give us honest feedback.

1. How do you feel at the end of the video? If you are in distress, and you watched this video, how would you feel at the end of it?

2. What do you like about it?

3. What don't you like about it?

4. Imagine if it was 20 seconds shorter with these sections cut (1:13 - 1:24 and 2:52 - 3:03), what do you feel about the length?

5. Would you watch the whole thing, let it play in the background and do other things, or leave?

6. What else should I know about this video that I didn't ask?

7. For ambitious folks - if you could split this video up into parts and reorganize it into a better flow so that all the best parts were covered - i.e., if we kept the intro part from 1 to 1:20, what other pieces/sections would you add to it? and in what order to make it the best it could be?

Thank you very much for taking the time to help out with this. The 3 issues outlined above are pretty challenging and we need all the help we can to figure this out.

I like it so much, it's not too long or too short, it's just 3 minutes long, which is the average waiting time at most of the time, what I like also about it is that it's animated which i think capitives you and if i were someone who is using 7cups for the first time i'd totally watch it all and I think whoever did this pointed out what 7Cups is really about it gives a good background about the site and the listeners

" No problem is too small" is one of my favourite lines, I'll say it again I really liked it

I don't think it's too long either. I think it's great!! I know the wait time can be a little long at times so the video will be able to capture and hold their attention. Great work!! :)

It's a great Video, no doubt...yet, I find it is more of a promotional in nature, than a welcome video.

To be honest, when I login as a member, anxious and desperate, I dont think I would have the patience to watch this. I would rather just find someone faster and start talking. It can be frustrating at times to wait for a listener, but probably you can think of calming exercises(Breathing Calibration, Deep Muscle Relaxation, Anagrams,- I find scrabble or sudoku is very calming to me - They can choose the activity that calms them the best) to give them, while they are waiting.

This video should be to promote 7cups, outside of the community. JMO.

Here's my feedback :)

1. & 2. How did you feel at the end of the video?/What do you like about it?

I really enjoyed the video, and I think it's a great idea to give people something to watch while they wait! If I was distressed, I think it would distract me while I was waiting, and might even give me some hope that 7 Cups can help. And I think that's how the video made me feel: hopeful. I liked that it answer a lot of questions and give people an idea of the scope of the site (i.e. chat, forums, growth path, etc.).

3. What don't you like about it?

One of the things that stood out to me was the use of the line, "You might not click with your first listener...". People need to know that they can select another listener, but I wonder if it being said in this way makes it sound negative. Maybe instead, "We can find a listener for you or you can go to the Browse Listeners page to connect with someone experienced in a specific issue. You can always go to the Browse Listeners page to connect with new listeners..." or something along those lines. At least if I was a guest watching this for the first time, I might be a bit more guarded if someone put that thought into my head.

4. What do you feel about the length?

I think the length is fine, but the sections mentioned above wouldn't really detract from the message if they were cut.

5. Would you watch the whole thing?

I would watch the whole thing, and I probably wouldn't do anything else or leave.

Overall, I really enjoyed it, and I think new people would benefit from seeing it! :D

I'll provide more detailed feedback later, however, initial thoughts: It's cartoony and fun which is ace!!! Nice one!

Okay, we've been working on this to try to make it shorter. What do you all think of the following versions:

Version 1 - full version we have now

Version 2 - shorter version

0-1:12 Keep
1:13-1:24 – skip 11 seconds
1:25 – 2:51 – Keep
2:52-3:03 – skip 11 seconds
3:04-3:38 Keep
Total: 3:12

Video 3 - Shortest Version:

0-0:06
0:06-1:24 skip 77 seconds
1:25 – 2:51 – Keep
2:52-3:03 – skip 11 seconds
3:04-3:32 Keep
Total: 2:00

1. How do you feel at the end of the video? If you are in distress, and you watched this video, how would you feel at the end of it?

I feel pretty good informed about this website's various aspects. I feel eager in using it. No changes in my mood.

If I'd be in a distress, I suspect I'd feel overwhelmed with all of the new info, though.

2. What do you like about it?

I like that art was used to illustrate various aspects of our community. It reminds me a little of DocMikeEvans' videos on YouTube, which I love ^^ And I like that the background for characters was in grey.

Clear overview of the sea of possibilities for members.

The text is great. It is hopeful and smart and comforting. I love it.

Music is at perfect volume and have cute optimistic undertones. It also doesn't distract me from the voiceover, which is good.

3. What don't you like about it?

The style of artworks seems a bit off in relation to the new looks of website. I don't think it clicks completely. Of course, I didn't see the full design, so I can be totally wrong about this.

The cheery voiceover. The timbre is good, but the whole reading is so merry and joyful it irritates me a little. I'm not a fan of pep-talks, so I guess it's completely my personal thing. I'd just prefer if the voiceover sounds more casual, and less forced. For me background music is enough to invoke optimistic mood.

Font in comic clouds (0:10-0:20) is a bit too small to read, and not everybody will know how to expand the video to fullscreen (e.g. elders).

I don't think the sound effects are necessary (e.g. popping at 0:21, mouse click at 2:02). For me the voiceover and music is enough, and the rest distracts a bit.

4. Imagine if it was 20 seconds shorter (...), what do you feel about the length?

I think I'd feel that this is still a bit too long, but I suspect the real issue is not the length, but the number of topics and information packed in it. Did you consider splitting this video into two smaller ones? For example, the first video could address the topic of 1-on-1 chats - professional training of listeners, possibility of selecting another listener, etc. The second one could paint a picture of long-term benefits of visiting our community and active participation. The person who stumble upon 7 Cups could then decide for themselves which video they want to watch according to their needs and current life situation. Smaller format would also be easier to sit through for more impatient people and have better chances to sink in.

After more thinking, there could also be a video for members interested in becoming a listener. Although I know all of it depends on resources and budget, I think it would be a cool thing.

5. Would you watch the whole thing, let it play in the background and do other things, or leave?

I watched the whole thing patiently, giving it my full attention. However, I suspect that if I'd be in distress, I would skip it after 1:35, because it stops being relevant for me as a person looking for help. In a given moment I'd like to talk with somebody, not think about my well-being in the distant future.

6. What else should I know about this video that I didn't ask?

I hope there will be an option of subtitles for people with hearing impairment.

I think that creating this video was a great idea, @GlenM. I think that watching this video can encourage new members to try a 1-on-1 chat, and also to sign up. I hope I didn't discourage any of you who work on it, with my comments, because I just really want to give my honest feedback, so v.2 be as great as it's possible. I'm amazed how much work all of you put into this community, to help excel its past versions. I'm really proud of you, guys ^^ Thank you and best wishes!

I agree on almost all of your thoughts. I create videos and do voice-overs for work so I'm often forced to tweak things that are already good to make them better. You've got a good eye and a lot of insight.

Nice job overall 7C! I think a video is a great intro tool to capture people's attention and inform them to the tools and benefits.

I loved the video I did not think it was too long. One thing was missing was this on purpose . Confidentiality ? It was not mentioned and I wonder how come. Good work all involved.

Honestly, overall this video was really good. The animation, style of speech, tone and content covered most bases. If I were to watch this during a hard time, I'd be happy I had reached out to 7 Cups and would feel comforted.

I personally did think it was a bit too long. I would still definitely watch the whole thing and I'm sure the majority of people would, but the problem is that half way through the video people would maybe zone out, and if we kept it in the same order and same length, people would start zoning out at the parts that contained the most important information.

I think the first 20-ish seconds are really good. I really liked the part that conveyed that no problem is too small. That should be kept in for sure. It's usually what most people want ot hear. But from pretty much 0:25 - 1:25, that can be cut.

I personally find it really important (after the intro) to start at 1:25 because what should be addressed first is what exactly are Listeners and that on your first go, your first listener might not be the best (which isn't a problem, as stated in the video).

Keeping the video the same length would be okay as well, but I think if it were to be at the same length, the extra details from 0.25 - 1:25 should be shifted towards the end.

There was also a line towards the end that said something along the lines of "growth can be simple and easy." If I was in a bad mood or had been struggling with something for a long, long time, those words would seem quite questionable. Even if it is true, a lot of people have found that growth isn't simply and easy so being told so would aggravate them.

~

Brilliant idea. I've always wanted people to know that they can connect to other listeners if their first one doesn't work out. I'm excited for it to be launched. :)

Hi just went back to watch the video again just in case I missed the Confidentiality part and it was not working .
