One Line a Day Journal Feature!
We will be releasing and testing a new feature that we are calling the One Line a Day Journal. This will sit right above the Learn/Explore/Grow tool on the member dashboard and right above the stats module on the listener dashboard.
This was inspired by the one second a day video app. My daughters have been using this for years. They record a 1 second video every day. The app then links all the 1 second videos together. 60 days is a minute for example. It is fun and they enjoy it. We have already tried the idea of combining this idea with journaling in the community through our One Line A Day Challenge launched in 2023, which gained good feedback from everyone involved, which also inspired the idea of making the reflection experience easier for everyone through a dedicated feature.
Our One Line a Day Journal is similar. It is an easy ask - just one line a day to help you reflect and grow. You can zoom out over time and see all of your entries to learn more about yourself. A daily check-in helps you process emotions, recognize patterns, and stay present. Looking back at past entries can inspire you to keep going, even on difficult days. Additionally, there is a little box that you can tick to make the entry public. If you make it public, then other people can heart your journal entry to show support. They cannot comment. They can only heart it.
We think this will help people heal and grow in a fun way that is also social.
Other quick points:
1. Only half of you will see this tool to start. We need to test it like this to see how it works and to fix any bugs that surface.
2. You can write more than a line a day if you like.
3. The entries will be moderated to keep safety in mind as we want this feature to be a safe space for support.
Please note that this One Line a Day Journal feature does not replace the private journal feature currently present on the site but is an additional way to check-in and reflect in the context of community support.
Here is how the One Line a Day Journal feature looks like on the dashboard(s):

Toggling “Read Community Reflections” gives you a look at community submissions to support:

On the other hand, toggling the green history icon on the top right can be used to see your own entries:

Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions below!
@GlenM Thank you for introducing this! I am really enjoying it so far, and like that it is quick and simple. Please keep it simple. I also like being able to scroll through others posts to heart it to appreciate what has been said without the clutter of comments.
@GlenM Oh! I’m one of the lucky testers! So far... I’m loving it. It’s a great feature—it makes me pause for a moment and be intentional.
@GlenM I haven't written anything in it because I feel like it is for positive posts. I often struggle emotionally so it is a struggle for me to come up with a positive post when I'm feeling overwhelmed.
@tryingtosurvive2024
I mean I've tried to make the posts at least neutral but I sometimes glide into negative thoughts myself and that is completely natural and normal when you're struggling with mental health issues...
If I have concerns that the post could trigger other people or put someone down, I don't publish them publicly but just keep it for myself to track my emotions.
(Just don't tick the checkbox, if you don't feel comfortable posting it publicly)
Also! What you just posted is a great entry already!! :
"I often struggle emotionally so it is a struggle for me to come up with a positive post when I'm feeling overwhelmed."
Or just the acknowledgement "I'm feeling overwhelmed, because—" and then adding what had made you feel overwhelmed and which are your triggers,
or even what you wish for, who you want to be, who you don't want to be, what you want to accomplish, what you had already accomplished that very day... any of these thoughts written down and tracked can already help!!!
Wish you all the best 🫂

Oh it's wonderful!! 😍
Finally a place (I won't lose or forget 😅) to track my progress and share a thought or two from my day.
Please please please make this available on the 7cups-app too!!! 🙏🏻
(That and the daily dashboard to be able to work on our streaks/Daily Targets in the app as well, not just when we're logged in on a browser)
Many thanks for your h(e)ard/t ♥️ work 🤗
@GlenM
- Who moderates these?
- Will there be a flagging option?
- If an account is deactivated their public journal entries still appear, consider taking these down. Currently I see no problem, bt anticipate this could be a useful way of managing issues faster.
- Is the threshold for listener boundaries the same as other areas, or is there more leeway?
- Listeners and members appear the same ie. No circles for listeners. Is it going to remain this way?
@7cupscommunity can we get some questions answered?
In addition to my above post, I see questions below I have also noticed. It's odd to ask for our phone number when 7cups has been promoted as an anonymous site. Why require a phone number from members to share?
The dates just show it's today, not the date the entry was written, can this be changed?
I see a number of things that violate guidelines but don't know how to report.

We were asking for numbers as a way to safety control while the feature's in trial. Changes/compromises are under discussion.

This has been fixed.
As for reporting inappropriate entries, for now please send in a ticket via Helpdesk. Or you can message SoulfullyAButterfly or myself, however we're not always around/our timezones are different so I suggest firstly sending in a ticket.

@Heather225 Thanks!
@GlenM it wanted my cell phone number, so I decided not to use it.
@tryingtosurvive2024
just tried the share with community aspect and it required the same…
why on earth is such a requirement needed for such involvement I have no idea.
like yourself it’s a clear , no thank you and the rational as to why would still be valuable to understand.
anonymous cups, was great while it lasted
@LabeledBPD I think it is important for cups to stay "anonymous". I'm not saying that people can't choose to let their real identities known. But I think as a mental health site being anonymous gives us the privacy we need to be able to be completely open online with each other. That openness is needed for mental healing.
@tryingtosurvive2024
i whole heartedly agree. Actively participating shouldn’t compromise such anonymity though!
what’s next, want to connect with a listener, or join a group chat, oh no no no.. provide your number first, then if you’d not mind verifying that also
community sharing journal entries can only be done with full disclosure of your mobile number.
Why?
@GlenM
phone number or participation is not allowed if sharing publicly your one line journal?
So much for anonymity.
Why?
you planning on giving me a call?
@LabeledBPD
if the IP address provided if not using a VPN is not enough. Phone number ?
this is crazy. You can sign up without disclosing a phone number. You wanna share a community journal, oh no no no.
Why phone number?
The rationale as to why allows so much overthinking
@GlenM
why is personal contact numbers being held by cups mandatory for engaging in the community shared journals?
What is next that will require your personal number to participate?
community shared journals, check.
This looks great
@GlenM
A great initiative, Glen. I wonder if it’s possible to for the tech team to set word limit (70 words)? Just a suggestion. Thank you.
