Group Mindfulness Exercise (aka Mood Boosts) - Starting October 12th at 9 AM Eastern
Many of you know with the new design we significantly updated the new growth path. Feedback so far has been really positive. One of the activities you can do on the growth path that is very powerful is the mindfulness exercise. Mindfulness is now a core part of psychotherapy for many psychological challenges like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relational challenges, and eating disorders. You can see a list of over 65 of them here.
One of the challenges with mindfulness is it can be a bit hard to do the exercises because it requires you to slow down, breathe, and listen. Like many things, when you have support, it is much easier to do things. So, what I'm proposing is a type of mindfulness/mood boost group. You can almost think of this as a sort of walking/running club. We'll meet every weekday morning at 9 am in the new mindfulness room. I'll open us up with a short affirmation, share the mindfulness exercise, and then we'll all listen to it right at that time. At the end of it, we'll reflect on how we feel. It'll help us all individually take a step forward our growth paths and also strengthen us a community.
I'll plan to start this on Monday 10/12 at 9am eastern. If it works, then we can expand times. Thoughts and feedback welcome on this idea and how we might be able to make it better. Thank you!
Just had our first exercise. Some quick observations:
-okay to go at your own pace. If you don't feel comfortable closing your eyes, that is okay.
-getting distracted is also okay, not a problem at all. this process will help you become less distracted.
-practicing as a group is fun and encouraging :)
@GlenM
The link for the mindfulness exercise did not work for me so I could not do it.
This is an amazing idea! Listeners can also share this idea with their members to encourage new ways of coping and group support! Can't wait to see how this works and hopefully there will be an expansion of times soon so more people can join :) Thx for the info and happy to see 7cups always branching out towards new ideas and goals for everyone here.
Evening! Group mindfulness session tomorrow 10-13 at 9 AM eastern in the mindfulness room. 5 minute greeting, 5 minute meditation, and 5 minute closing. Hope to see you there!
@GlenM in the future, please provide link to the mindfulness room. That helps a lot.
This is a wonderful idea. I feel uplifted by the mindfulness exercise. I will also keep link handy for members and guests on 1 to 1 who might be interested.
Also note one person (myself included) saw the link
https://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness2/
as text not as a link. A link is easier for people if that is possible.
Thank you so much for this wonderful way to start and or end the day.
@soulsings Hi, new to this. Where is the mindfulness room exactly? Scratching my head all day trying to find it. Thanks!
@GlenM
EST, EDT time? Six there right now according to here. Roughly three hours, oohhh. Might rope in a listenee :D Or two. Woop. I have a suggestion though.
If you generally have events happening on a certain timezone's time, why not set in a 7c clock indicator? The current community calender is frustrating with its two way unlimited load but would certainly be less so with more of an indicator to when or what is what, in real time. :))
When's the next one?
@Estrellita tomorrow morning at 9 am eastern :)
@GlenM oops, i didnt realize it was daily, thought it was weekly. sorry, i will see u tomorrow
Can we get more information on the exercises so we don't end up doing something that makes us feel worse?
Is there a link for today?
Update - we finished up our pilot this morning. We did a group mindfulness exercise each day at 9 am eastern. It went well and I was able to meet a number of new people. Next week we are going to extend the time to 3 PM eastern. So, group mindfulness will happen at both 9am and 3pm eastern each day. If that goes well, then we'll open the room up so people can stop in to find a buddy to do a mindfulness exercise with them. We may also get to a point where we do a mindfulness exercise every hour on the hour. That'll likely be further down the road. Thanks!
Boooo. I work 7-4. Sob
