Our New App is Here!
Hey, everyone! Happy 2021! We’re kicking it off with exciting news! We now have an awesome NEW, REVAMPED app!
We have been working on this app since November 11, 2018. It is our single biggest release that we have ever made as an organization. 7 Cups is a big site, but most of the changes have been incremental. This new app is an entirely new rewrite/re-build of our entire site. It isn’t like renovating a staircase or putting in a new kitchen, it is instead like building an entirely new house from the ground up!
Most companies focus on the product first. They often have very clean and beautiful apps and little in the way of community. For us, we’ve always prioritized community over product. We care first and foremost about the people we serve. The product (the app and the site) is the medium through which we help people. In that way, you can think of 7 Cups like a building. People give and receive support in our building, and this building is our website and app.
There were many challenges with our old building (app) that made the process of giving and receiving support much more difficult. Those challenges have now been addressed and we’re ready to see what you think!
I’d like to give a very big thank you to all the people that worked on this app. They’ve made a beautiful building for us that anyone can now enter from anywhere in the world (i.e., it should now work on most phones). The developers, designers, and managers include:
Adam
Adrian
Austin
Colin
Cris
Ece
Erik
Ezra
Jakub
Lance
Lu
Maciej
Mathew
Monika
Ryan
Vera
Weronika
Xian
These folks, collectively, have written 35,000k lines of code, made over 800 code commits (think of a code commit as submitting a big amount of work), and have spent thousands of hours building the app. Please join me in thanking all of these developers, designers, and managers for our new app!
You can find it here on Google Play Store and here on the Apple Store.
We’re excited to hear what you like about the app, so please check it out and share your thoughts below in the replies!
We sincerely hope you enjoy it! Thanks for all of your patience and support over the years!
@GlenM
Summary: Some listeners may need to change password to switch between accounts. Would like to be able to give a person more than 10 hearts a day. :-)
Ironically, three days ago, I uninstalled the app and installed the app because I was having issues not being able to switch betweent Land M account on app. The new app did install at that time, which caused my inabilitiy to switch betweeen L and M account on my laptop as well. I did do an IT request, because I could not talk to my members on my L account.
Last night (EST last night) I still had no fix and was worried by members would think I abandoned them, but @communitymodmae suggested I change my password...GENIUS! Once I reset my password, all was restored to peaceful bliss. THANK YOU, Mae for being so helpful in my time of panic :-) <3
I am now able to switch between accounts on both phone and laptop. I also noticed since last night, that the app is smoother. When I first downloaded it, there was a delay in my messages being sent in chat and 1:1 and seeing updated messages in the chatroom. But I have not had any of these issues as of today.
I am navigating the new app, I just found out where you can see the participants in the chatroom. The look of the app looks modern and sleek, Thank you for a wonderful update on the app.
So my only complaint was as of this morning (I have not tried since) but it gives you a warning you can only heart a persons messages 10 times a day. Is there a reason for this? Can this be changed? I am a "hearter" I use it to let my members know I read their message and hear them, and also in chat to let them know they are being heard.
Thank you again!!!
This has now been bumped to 30 per member per day.
@GlenM
Would it be possible to not have a limit on compassion hearts? There isn't one on the site as far as I'm aware, but 30 also goes away real quickly, and as Willow mentioned above, a lot of listeners use hearts to indicate they've read messages so that members know that the listener is just reading if they're not actively typing yet. We also use these as indicators of reading or seeing things in group support. I've seen a lot of members getting anxious not being able to heart things in group support discussions or about me (or I'm sure other listeners) not hearting messages anymore in 1-1 because we've reached our quota for the day since chats and discussions can often be much longer than 30 messages.
Check out the Family & Caregivers Subcommunity
@GlenM The design is perfect. I ak downloading it
The new app is so much more intuitive!! Thank you for your hard work and thoughtfulness!! Great job everyone!!
You guys have no idea how thrilled I am to be using the new version of the 7cups app. Talk about an UPGRADE. I'm sure you all have worked super hard to put together such detailed and easy to use app. The layout and everything *claps*
This definitely serves the purpose of reaching out to people instantly when in need of a helping hand or just to have a lighthearted chat. There are so many features you have included as well; ones I never thought were needed but wow was I baffled. Most of all, a dark mode is included which is AMAZING! Since I like to use the app mostly at night, it goes easy on my eyes and I've been hoping for 7cups to get a dark mode for those of us who are more comfortable with it. There's something for every member and listener! Thank you so much for this! God bless and kudos to everyone who worked real hard on bringing this app to fruition.
this app looks great!
can't wait to use it!
Great new app! Runs fast, user friendly, great looks. Just love it. Thanks 😊!
It’s a great app but is there a place to provide feedback on suggestions for things that aren’t working?
This is super exciting! I love the way it looks and it's so easy on the eyes. Everything is working great so far! Thanks to everyone who put in the hard work to make this possible!
@GlenM Thanks so much everyone working on the new update .. so far some are loving it and some are hating it but this comes with everything !! Awesome job !
One of the changes happened in new app is we don’t come to know whether the members or online or offline
@JoshuaIssac
Yeah! 😅
Also, we can now upload our profile pic through app, we can also Crop or adjust the size.
Hi @GlenM. The new app looks great. However, I can absolutely confirm that there are no more notifications on my phone for anything anymore. The only way to see if someone has replied to me is to open up the app and navigate to the room, which gets tedious. Any fixes on the way? I'm on Android with Galaxy over here.
