Hope's Reflections

Hope October 25th, 2022

Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. So many times I have come across things that have helped my life, whether they are quotes or books and at times I feel like what a shame it is that not more people will benefit from this.

I am using this thread to simply share quotes/reflections that you can read on. You can add/comment on anything that feels relevant. If you find it beneficial, you can subsribe. If you don't then no problem, I am sure there is something out there in forums that will be a better fit for you.

Hi everyone! It has been a while since I posted on this thread. I hope you all have been keeping well.

I think too often we find ourselves complaining about life, the circumstances are in, and the trials we are met with especially if it was not meant to happen or it's 'unfair'. However what good does that bring us, now we are dealing with trial and our bad attitude, we have made it worse. This is different than venting to a listener, I am referring to an obsessive focus on negativity in our life for a long time. A pattern of thoughts where you rob yourself of joy by focusing on what you have not been given

“How does it help…to make troubles heavier by bemoaning them?” - Seneca.

Do you find yourself doing the same? How do you pull yourself out of it?

@Hope

Hi Hope! 😊❤️ Thank you for your forum post. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts as well as reading the quote!

I just so happen to agree with you. I have a tendency to pay respect to each moment even the negative ones. I give them all their proper space and time. It's okay for something to not "sit well" with you. It's okay to dislike certain situations, to dislike negative behaviors of others, circumstances, etc. It's okay to be sad and to feel hurt. ❤️

After I sit in that space, I'm able to say, well.........."wow! That really happened"! Or, "It is, what it is". I try to see everything as a learning opportunity. Even if it teaches me to stay away from certain things, situations, people or to change my approach.........just like a child will learn quickly when placing a hand on a hot stove. Ouch! That hurt, lets not do that again. I can even see being treated poorly as a learning opportunity. That sure did teach me how not to be. That felt terrible and I would never want to make another human being feel that way.

I'm not much for complaining about things (at least not incessantly). Sometimes I feel like the more energy you give to something, the larger it grows. I'd rather harness my energy and focus it in a direction that will better serve me.

Something that always helps me is gratitude moments. I like to focus on what it is that I do have rather than on what it is that I do not.

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️

@SparkyGizmo

I like the idea of sitting with the feelings regardless of their nature but allowing yourself to move on from the negative ones. That is wise

@Hope What a great post! So, for me... I am all for venting. Sometimes I just have to let things out that I have bottled up. Once I let them leave my person, whether on paper or through chatting with someone, I feel much better. I learnt to let things go long ago because I noticed that if we keep talking about it, it makes the anger and pain resurface all over again. Once or twice venting is enough... any more just adds fuel to the fire. That is when we fall in the trap of being negative and the more we talk about it and bring it up, the more it lives within us... except now we are only dragging others down with us. For someone to be able to work on it and let go of the obsession of negativity, they have to be aware they have fallen in the trap. Sometimes people live and breathe negative things, woe is me, this is bad in my life, I can't do or say anything right, etc that they do not even realize that everything that comes from them is negative. I believe surrounding ourselves with good, wholesome people is key to helping us be self-aware. Good, positive, and supportive people can help get us through our tough times and constantly surrounding ourselves with "good" things and changing our mind set will help... because soon we will find ourselves smiling more and being happy more. :) It is very possible to escape constant dark places and quit obsessing over the unpleasant things in life if we are open to actually changing. <3

@YourCaringConfidant

It is good to get the thoughts out and vent. But I agree after a while it is just adding more pain than necessary.

@Hope Thank you for sharing your quotes with us. I find that mindfulness and meditation are helpful tools for me and not just me, but for everyone. But it does require an open mind, and practice, enorder to reach full potential and enlightenment. Which I have, but not everyone, sadly comes with an open mind or a willingness to practice or try it. Which I do not understand. There is plenty of information about the benefits of meditation and mindfulness, plus it has been around for a very long time too. It does not take a lot of time either. Which, I know is a concern for those who have busy lives.

Hi Mango! 😊❤️ I liked hearing your thoughts! I agree, practicing mindfulness is so very helpful. 😊❤️ I am sad to report though, that I would be on the "naughty" list for not engaging in meditation. Bad Gizzie, bad! lol 😊

You know, I tried it once. Smh at self and my comment. I know.....really? 😳 Once? 😳 I still have a lot of learning and growing to do that's for sure. Always room for self improvement. I'm confident I'll try again some day.

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️
