Don't overwhelm yourself. Take the time to learn the role before applying and once you have the roll, take the time to find your way around it. Learn about the role that you have.

Take the time to learn who the people are in your team. It makes a really really big difference. :)

I would have to say to take your time and not to rush for a variety of different badges. Anyone can be a leader here, it's about the leader that lies with in you. Any one can be a leader in their own right as long as they are working to be of service to others. Enjoy the role and everything that it entails and not the badge. Make it count! Instead of taking on too many roles, becoming frustrated or burned out, take your time and enjoy every little step of the way. Hone your craft with one and then reach for another if you have the time. I imagine going up the ladder may feel quite fabulous, but coming down that ladder and possibly hitting your chin on every wrung on the way down could prove to be quite painful.

@Heather225 to look out for everyone. There are regulars who you will likely see a lot around the community and who you will likely make friends with during your time as a Listener, but don't forget to acknowledge the newcomers too as you'd have wanted the same for you when you were new. On a similar note; be fair, be unbiased, be honest and lead by example.
