April 5: Therapist Directory & Community Launch
Hello everyone!
Many of you have been reading about this update in this thread.
Today, we push this update live. For the most part, this will not impact you or your experiences on 7 Cups.
But there is one part of this that will impact you: updated menu layout.
#1) "Find a Therapist" added on far left & Under "Get More Involved" you'll see "Join our Therapist Community"

#2) Update to status & account information

This change will launch at 9AM tomorrow morning! (Tuesday, April 5)
Thank you!
I like seeing in my chat list both t (Teens) and T (Therapists).![]()
@cristiana33 - do we have the T working yet?
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn
It appears in both 1-1 chats and chatrooms from what I noticed :)
@cristiana33 It has worked for me in group chats, yes. I haven't checked in 1:1s. I had been wondering how everyone knew I was a T and not a L right off the bat! Took a second glance to realize the answer... :)
Needed some getting used to but really like how the task bar is still visible once I scroll down the page, I also like seeing the settings/logging in/out after clicking into my profile picture :)
@Laura Awesome! Thank you. It's perfect <3
I am ridiclously happy and excited to hear this news! :)
While I do share the joy, I did also notice a few little wrinkles...
Because my degree is a Master of Arts, my Therapist profile makes it look like I'm a therapist in Massachusets. It's more normal for the MA to go after my name.
In the UK we don't have licensing, but the empty License field in my profile makes it look as if I'm simply unlicenced, which is sort of true but also sort of misleading.
In the UK an academic qualification isn't in itself any kind of professional credential at all, so it's misleading to cite my degree as Credentials. It might be more useful to show which code of practice I adhere to, but that's not the same thing as credentials at all.
There's no country icon to show that I'm in the UK (like Listeners have).
In the About section of my profile I had problems with the editor inserting extra blank lines between paragraphs.
Signing up without any directory listing, I was still asked to provide the information needed for a directory listing, and still invited to provide billing information (even though I could evade it).
The Settings page, at the bottom, invites me to deactivate my listener account. And it's the same with the e-mail sent when I lost my password, which said Account types found: Listener
In the Listener Community Guidelines, item 12 says "Never create second accounts on the site. " and then immediately goes on to say listeners can have two accounts! But some listeners can now have three, presumably.
On logging out, a guest account appears, and it's a different guest account on each device I use. When I log out I don't expect to find myself logged in as someone else, although I can sort of understand why it happens.
...just wrinkles, though. Otherwise joy
Oh, and the popup over my name here in the forum also says I'm a listener.
@RodWhiteley
Wow. Thank you for all of this really great feedback!!! As you can tell, we are still working out lots of wrinkles, and getting a good thorough list of your observations like this is so very helpful.
The international licensing/credential/education issue is proving to be quite tricky. We're working to try to find the best possible solution so that we can ensure that truly qualified individuals can be listed appropriately.
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn for helping to fix some of these glitches.
@LaraGregorio One thing I would like to see changed too is that I would prefer if my license identifiers can be entered privately so admin can use it to verify but not publicly. While it is public information, it seems unnecessary and like it invites trouble to put it in big letters on our lookups.
@RodWhiteley - thanks Rod for the feedback and your patience as we sort out these wrinkles. I will make sure we track and fix all these issues.

These are the notifications that will not go away: https://imgur.com/5uPim1S
With the exception of this thread and the research study, the links to the forum pages are broken and instead just go to the forum home. Also, I'm not sure if this is intentional or not but it appears we cannot earn badges on the T side presently. Also, the notifications to message a quality mentor and do the verified listener badge should probably not show up for T's, as when we do message mentors for this, it seems to cause some significant anxiety for some if there's any such expectation on them. Perhaps as we form a bigger T community, we will be more able to have such roles within the T's.
Also, @GlenM & @KrinktheMellowUnicorn - It seems to be freaking out listeners that those of us not listed in the directory cannot be looked up at all by them (unless they know our lookup URLs or see us in group chat and can click on our usernames). I'm wondering if there is a way, without the directory listing, to be look-up-able only to other listeners and T's? Being "invisible" like this kind of freaks people out. It would also be nice for the T's to be able to know how many other T's there are around.
