July 14: How do you use hearts?
As we plan the Follow feature we?ve been discussing the goal of supporting and encouraging each other as we take steps on the path and when we post inspiring content.
At 7 Cups there is already the hearticon, designed to give you a way to reward other people for showing compassion.
So, if you wrote a very compassionate post to your feed and I?m following you, it makes sense that I can ?heart? your post to reward you for that compassion.
But if you took another step on your path or did some other activity toward growth, and I see in my feed that you did this, how can I show you support in general? How can I give you a virtual ?thumb?s up? to encourage you or a"hug" to show you I care?
Our conversation led me to wonder how people are using the hearts today and what you consider to be the meaning of a heart when you click on it in a chat.
Please share with me what hearts mean to you, how you use them, and any ideas you may have about how we can give everyone a way to encourage each other.
Thanks!
I use hearts as a quick way to say "What you've said resonates with me, and I'm glad you shared it, because now I feel understood and less alone". They are the easy way to say thank you for listening, for understanding, for trying. Depending on the mood, it can be that you've said a very compassionate thing, or maybe a funny thing that lifted up a sad member, or that you've put into words the way I'm feeling and I wasn't able to describe, or maybe you welcomed me into a chatroom when I was feeling like I didn't belong and was about to leave. You've made an impact in my life in some way, and I want to let you know.
I think hearts are a very powerful thing, and one of the features I love more on 7cups.
I use hearts as a way to say I can relate, as a virtual hug, and I give them to people who give good support and feedback in the chat. They can be used loads of different ways I think.
I use hearts in many different ways. Like if someone says it's their first time reaching out i use a heart as a way of encouraging them and congratulating them for bravery. I use them if someone says something nice, funny, or something i relate to.
I, right now, use them for when I feel like a listener really got what I was saying. If there were and ear icon or a mouth icon or something to represent exchange I would use that instead.
I also use it for when they say something really smart that solves a portion of my problem. I would love to click a brain there or something of the like. Maybe a merit badge or a trophy; something that signifies that we got it, this is the place we can stop.
I don't use the chatrooms very often but would find it useful if the hearts could be used on the forum.
I use my hearts for a few different reasons...
- Like many others, I use them when someone has said something kind or helpful to me to show I appreciate their effort/kindness.
- I also use them when I feel someone has said something worth noting to another person in chat, or if they have said something similar to what I would have said.
- I will heart a comment if a user puts their issues out there as a way of letting them know that they were heard and to hopefully make them feel comfortable and well received. I do this hoping it will motivate them to get some more off of their chest.
- Lastly, I will heart people who share things that help them through their issues to help draw attention to it in case it can help someone else out.
I use hearts various ways.
- As a way of showing I care, equivalent to writing hugs or something.
-To show that I agree with a statement.
-To acknowledge someone responding to me
-For kind statements, whether to me or someone else.
When I use hearts, it's to show that I appreciate the fact that someone acknowledged and understood what I'm feeling. It's like a "that's cool, thank you".
I use hearts whenever someone either makes me smile or I feel like they really care. I also use them when people show kindness to others.
@ WinterSolace95 I love that you give hearts to people who show kindness to others. In real life when I see an act of kindness, I let people know how beautiful it is to witness such acts. The responses I receive are always positive.
Giving hearts is truly a transferrable action.
I use hearts like similar to how I would use a Facebook like button. I have been mostly using them when something funny has been said. I also use when someone says something kind or empathetic.
