Hi Everyone,

Later this month we will be releasing a new wellness test. The old wellness test was based on the DASS scale (learn more here). The new wellness test will be based on the PHQ-9 (learn more here) & the Generalized Anxiety Disorder test /GAD (learn more here).

Other updates -

1) Noni can now administer the wellness test (wooohoo)

2) the wellness test will also ask more demographic questions. Our goal in collecting this information is to provide better resrouces to you. You do not need to answer any question you are uncomfortabl with.

How are somatoform disorders distinguished from symptoms due to physical causes?

For anyone who just wants to see what the questions are, these tests can be found here: PHQ-9 and GAD-7 These versions at SAMHSA have extra questions to address a problem with the originals, so the PHQ-9 actually has ten questions and the GAD-7 has eight.

I think it's very misleading to call this a wellness test. These tests are used specifically to screen for depression and anxiety disorders only.

For a well-known and extensively researched test that really is a wellness test, see PERMA (free registration required).

@RarelyCharlie From your first link:

Diagnoses of Major Depressive Disorder or Other Depressive Disorder also require impairment of social,

occupational, or other important areas of functioning (Question #10) and ruling out normal bereavement, a

history of a Manic Episode (Bipolar Disorder), and a physical disorder, medication, or other drug as the

biological cause of the depressive symptoms

So unless the one that 7cups uses also asks about medical history, medications, drug use and recent events that have happened, it's over simplified and may contribute further to the stigma that people dealing with physical illnesses are just manifesting it psychologically, which often causes further harm due to lack of proper medical treatment.

@AffyAvo Yeah, one thing that concerned me when answering the questions, is that it didn't allow for me to tell them if my low mood on some days had been related to a drug comedown. So when it suggested I'm depressessed, although I happened to be as well, from what I told it I could just as easily have had a drug addiction and it never addressed that. If it had it could have linked me to one of the more relevent pathways.
