September 3: Member Bios!
Today we will give members the ability to write a bio!
You can edit your bio from your profile settings page. Enjoy!
What's great@! Thank you :)
I am so thrilled about this! I feel like this, combined wih the feed feature, changes the feel of the website from a crisis (lack of a better word) or a one-time use site, to a place where people can settle down and keep coming back to their own personalized profile and growth path, which I feel is what the goal was. You've amped up the game from a business/retention stand point, guys!
The feed feature really brought members to life, which I LOVE, since it allowed them to show us who they are and gave them a voice. We all know how feeds scroll, though, but now you've given people the opportunity to talk about themselves if they wish, with still as much anonymity as they wish, and keep it stuck on their profile. I think it's a fabulous idea!
My only concern was already addressed, and that was the issue of inappropriate content in bios. Since that can be handled by sending a report via email, I think it's certainly worth that small risk of abuse.
Great idea guys :)
This is AMAZING @Laura!! I have wanted/asked for this for quite some time and even suggested it somewhere!! WOW! So glad to see this here and the members able to express themselves!!
I only have one suggestion, is there any way we can make the members stand out more as Members? As right now, to me at least, they are quite similar to the layouts of Listeners, besides the lack of the message button of course. To me, so long as that doesn't change, there is an awesome way to know if a person is a Member or a Listener that I don't think many people have realized; A members display picture is in a circle, whereas Listener display pictures are in a square!!
Other than that, awesome update!!
Hey Philbear! I like that. Circles and squares were meant to do that - the shapes do a good job in the forums. Maybe this could translate to other areas of the site like: feed, follow lists, chatrooms..etc.
@Krinkthemellowunicorn may be able to chime in here too :)
yes, right now they are inconsistent across the site, i believe. we'll need to make sure the new design captures that distinction too.
@Laura @KrinkTheMellowUnicorn thanks for the feedback!!
The circles/squares is a nice and subtle approach, but I was more thinking of a way that could actually distinguish them more, as right now if you look at a simple Member vs Listener profile they are quite similar. Perhaps Members can just have things shifted around to not look/display the same? Perhaps have a little icon at the bottom right of their profiles which signify M or L, for Member or Listener maybe?
Before you would know if a person was a Member/Listener easy as the URL was Member/Profile/Name and for Listeners it was ListenerDetails/Name but now the standardized format of @Name doesn't make it so obvious... I guess it saves on duplicate usernames for Members/Listeners at least so that is a good thing!
good point!
it may make sense to have a text heading "listener profile" vs "member profile"
@KrinkTheMellowUnicorn Something as simple as that can have such a great effect! Looking forward to your next few updates!
Do you have a dev log yet of sorts? I remember in the beginning you said you'd look into something of the sorts so we can keep track of what is new, what was changed, etc. Sorry if I haven't found it!
Nothing as formal as that, maybe not being a dev myself, but I have started doing some forecasting and some roundups of recent fixes in my studio forums.
