Feature Update: New Header for Member Side
Good news for the member side!
Back in March (mentioned in the month’s Community Update), we released a streamlined header for new members on the website (no changes to the mobile app). We’re excited to announce that in the coming days, we are scaling up the new header bar for ALL members!
We understand navigation has been one of the bigger complaints, and this takes a big step in solving this problem.
Better navigation requires making choices about hierarchy - what to show in the header and what gets shown later in the journey. Streamlining the navigation means some links will be moved from the header into our core pages of Chat, Path and Forum. We know that for our experienced users, this will be a change from what you are used to. We hope that over time you enjoy the benefits of the new structure. If you’re finding it challenging, try to remember that it will be a lot easier for new users to find help and support with this new structure.
And don’t worry, listeners, there’s a version coming for you soon! We hope to have the listener version rolled out in the coming weeks.
This change is expected to go live week of May 14th.
As always, thank you for rolling with the changes and for continually helping us strengthen our platform through your support!
How do I find my own threads? 😅
@mytwistedsoul If you're in the forums there's a search bar in the top right hand corner, if you use that you have the option to check the box for my threads.
@AffyAvo Oh! Cool - Thank you! This is going to take some getting used to 😬
@mytwistedsoul Yeah, I do find it's a bit of an adjustment.
It's a bit of an adjustment, but so far I like the layout, especially the changes to under our profile picture.
I'm missing seeing the number of notifications that we have.
I personally don't really like this change, it's far too bright and I would like to see cups for browser in a dark mode because this is kind of anxiety inducing. Have to get used to the new buttons still but I think that'll come soon enough.
Can't access all group chats on phone using web site it only shows the first three? Unless maybe I'm not working this right lol
Anyone else?
@mytwistedsoul Nvm figured it out 🥴
Little tweaks that I think could make the update better:
- https://www.7cups.com/dashboard/ page, Group chats: when clicking see all chats, bring up the full list of group chats, be it a drop down list or a different page. I think it's a bit annoying to click see all only to be brought to the 1-1 chat page and then having to make multiple clicks to get to the full group chatroom list
- The chat button - upon clicking have browse listeners/connect now appear. Currently, on mobile I need to click select a conversation first. Clicking the chat button doesn't take me to a page that actually has anything to offer me in 1 click.
- Notifications - list the number without any extra clicking (mentioned earlier here). When I'm using the site this allows me to see something quicker if the number increases,.
- Jump to forum post - from the notifications, get this working again
- Group chats - see more, going back in history. I think there are pros and cons to this. At the very least, people should be informed if the history will now be accessible going back further. Ideally, I would like the option for each room to be individual (# of posts or length of time) plus include the addition of a clear button that certain people (mods?) can clear the message history from general user view..
Great ideas and feedback as always @AffyAvo.
We're working on most of those for next release so watch this space.
Notifications sending you straight to the forum post is fixed - can you check it works for you and ping me if not.
As standard, most group chats show minimal history. Admins can extend this for special types of groups like Huddles (check out S4!).
@Jon7Cups Yes, jump to post looks good now. I also see I can edit on the first try which had been an ongoing problem, including after the update. I hope the edit glitch is resolved for good now too!
I'm getting the hang of this new website design, but it's unfortunately too bright for my eyes. I mainly access this platform on desktop web browser instead of the app. Hopefully a dark mode option can be added in the future.
I still have to scroll to find posts
The new header is awful.
I hate the white background, it's waay too bright. While the buttons for path, chat, and forums, may be useful on mobile, it's horrible design on desktop.
Put it back to where it was with the navigation bar and blue background.
Using the mobile browser one thing I can't find is the about us page which also then branches out for other links like member and listener reputation ie. Badges.
Am I missing where I should be looking?
On a computer I can find it on the dashboard.
Hmm, yes the quick links module (which has these links) is typically in the right column on web which gets hidden on mobile web. Best place at the moment is to go to the footer on your profile page but will give it some thought.
@Jon7Cups Right underneath leadership roles looks like a reasonable spot.
Would be super awesome if we could customize quick links, ie. add a few of our own little bookmarks area on-site.
I noticed since this last update I didn't have a dot at my pfp indicating whether I was online or not. I have to admit I was kind of excited. That dot has caused problems in the past (long story) anyway I asked a listener yesterday if I they could still see it and they said yes. So why is the dot invisible to me?
Yes members can't change their online status so its a slightly weird legacy item @mytwistedsoul. The upcoming chat system update will hide this when listeners are looking at member icons.
