Regional, State, Country Surveys?
Quick question for you all:
We released our Local section a few months ago: 7cups.com/local. Part of this directory includes the top 50 mental health challenges in each region. I was talking with a couple of friends that were trying to find ways to create positive mental health change through organized campaigns. One idea they had one was a sort of regular poll or survey that would be tied to states or countries.
Members and listeners would be able to ask their own questions. We would also ask questions. The goal would be to try to figure out bottom-up and top-down what the main mental health challenges are in each region. Once we identified those challenges, we could then help start to solve them both online - on 7 Cups - and offline through working with local partners.
The data from the surveys would be published on the local pages for each country and state.
Any reactions to this idea?
We don't want to do it if there isn't organic interest in it. I'm not wedded to it either way. Open and honest feedback very welcome!

It's a very interesting issue. I am just shy of 2 to have spoken to 1500 people so far and - yes - there are issues in some countries that just don't exist in others, due not only to cultural differences, but also the social changes everywhere.
7cups also attracts people from places where psychological or even medical help is expensive, if you can have any at all.
7cups reflects a lot of the present American mentality, and particularly the younger folks. It may be hard to change that.
I would add that many "cases" have had a legal dimension or required some internet search to find out where they could get help...

You bring up some very valid points. And of course, submitting local connections/referrals need to be 'scrutinized', so as to not to advertise an organization that might end up being more harmful, than helpful.

Well, out of ignorance of course, I never refer anyone anywhere. Not even on 7cups if the member is not culturally close to the US.
@GlenM sounds like an amazing idea bearing able to help someone not only personally here in 7cubes but with other outside resources

Why does the survey not include Other, when responding to the 'Section" portion? Why are there only these 4 options?

Are all countries around the world included? Also if the people are not English speakers is that an issue?

I am sure there are countries that will not be reached for a long time because of their government restrictions or because the issues that are handled on 7cups are already covered by a national website which suits them better.

7cups tries to be international, but still misses the mark. They use automatic censoring rules that only apply to American English slurs, while in another language using the same Roman characters the word means something quite different. English is really the easiest language to use. If you are able to chat in a language using a different script, no problem there.
I have seen people asking for a listener that would be able to speak an LOTE (Language other than English) but there are not enough listeners who would be able to take it up, let alone in a timely fashion.

I would be interested in this as well! As someone from Canada, I hope that the survey could break us down into the provinces. Otherwise, it's really not all that "local", haha. Thanks for initiating this idea!

I added Canadian submissions - 2 national, 2 local, for consideration.They are looking for submissions, that will be considered. But I get what you are saying -sub-regional/provincial listings would be a benefit. :)

Not necessarily 'direct' LGBTQA+ organizations, but given 'changes' outside of Cups, as well as more 'scrutiny' , national organizations can help in the direction.
How do we maintain user privacy while creating a database based on submitting their local mental health resources they've personally used and therefore have feedback on?
@Zeraphim we are not capturing reviews now. We are just trying to locate available local resources to refer people to in case they need help where they live.
@GlenM Absent submission of feedback but with submission of local mental health resources - which provides a general idea of the area where each user is local to, in the process - how do we maintain user privacy?
