How has your week been? What's been challenging?

I am doing okay. Went for a nature walk this weekend with a club at my school, which helped my mood. :)

I am juggling many homework assignments and several tests in a row coming up, and I also need to work on taxes and subletting my apartment for the summer. It's a bit overwhelming. I still struggle with feeling lonely a lot too.

What is a random act of kindness you have done or will do this week?

Not sure. If I have time maybe I can sign an online petition.

Any plans/goals for this upcoming week?

I definitely want to take first towards sorting out my housing/cat sitting for the summer this week.

@Daydreamer47

Hey Day! Thanks so much for joining our weekly check-in.

I can relate to the stress and craziness of having assignments due and upcoming tests.

It feels like you have no time to breathe as you are just completely consumed with them.

But we can just take things a step at a time. Slowly working our way through the assignments

I know you will do your best and that is what's most important

I wish you the bestest of luck!

It sounds like your walk with your nature club was a nice reset for you and put you in a better mood.

Walks are a nice way to take a break from work and get your mind on doing something else.

Maybe you can talk about another walk this week to help manage your stress?

That sounds like an awesome goal of getting a chance to plan out your summer with your house/cat sitting.

I used to do a lot of house/animal sitting and it was such a great job.

I hope that you have an amazing week ahead! *shares cookies and kiwis*

amazing check-in, thank you for posting 💙

How has your week been? What's been challenging?
This week has actually been really hectic with the to-do list literally never ending! I'm really thankful now though as I'm off work for a little bit so can catch up and rest. Reflecting back to last week it was definitely by far one of my most stressful weeks ever!

What is a random act of kindness you have done or will do this week?
I gave out random "kindness" cups to people at work and they really enjoyed the sweet treats
😎

Any plans/goals for this upcoming week?
Catching up on my to-do list and resting!!

Thank you for the check-in!

I took a break over the past weekend, and really got to work today. Finally made a purchase on a computer software, that will be super helpful with my business. So, it was a necessary purchase. So, just spent a few hundred dollars, I was really putting it off until when I actually need to use it. Now is the time. With this purchase, it has pushed me to really get going with launching my business. I'm still aiming for this summer.

I have about a week and a half left of free time, before having a 3-week work block coming up. Then I'll be forced to use my weekends to work instead.

I've been planning to announce my business once I've become successful (actually earning an income). Don't want to give people false hope. I have been working on the preparation for the past year or so. I'm eventually hoping that I could do it full-time and quit my current job. I'd also like to quit either before 3 of my teammates retire, or shortly after they've retired. Which, could happen in 2-3 years from now. That means, I have that much time left to get my business up and running. I need to quit after those 3 retire, because 2 of the 3 staff members who I know is interested in their position, I do not get along with from the previous department I once worked with them. So, if they get the job, I'm out!

Although I love my job, but the "team" I work with, take advantage of me and just because I'm more hard-working than they are, they complain about the littlest things I miss. My "team" never truly appreciates the work I do, which sometimes makes working with them, a little depressing. But other people I work with (who are not directly on my team, but are still closely related), some of them do like me and really appreciate the effort I put in. So, the kindness that colleagues show are 50/50. I try and not to think of my work as wanting the need to be appreciated, and just focus on my work at hand. But it sure would make the work environment have a more positive vibe if teammates were actually nice and shared the work. Rather than having me do everything, I always feel like as a "team", they sure don't work like a team. I always help them with their duties, on top of my own, but when I ask them to help me out, or when they go and do some of my tasks themselves, they will subtly complain to me about how they have so much of their work to do, and they had to pick up after me. Every time, I'll be thinking, "Well, I helped you do this and that quietly, not complaining directly at you for not doing your work. Why are you being a pain and complaining to me about helping me out? We are a team, we're supposed to help each other out with our tasks. That's what a team is all about, no?"

I've mentioned these to my Manager before, but there has been no improvement from my team. I'm still doing all of my work, and theirs too. I'm still getting those subtle complaints from them, so, in that sense, I sometimes do not look forward going to work. But, when I can focus on my own tasks, and just interact mostly with my other colleagues, and only speak to my teammates when necessary, then my mood is a bit better. I can tell that my teammates appreciation is not sincere, and they are just saying it because of manners and trying to be polite about it.

Yes, I'll have 3 weeks of work, then, will be off for another 2 weeks, then back to work for a week or so. But, I had the days off in May and June approved by my Manager. So, aside from the shifts that are pre-booked, they cannot call me in to replace sick calls or doctors' appointments for May and June. Hopefully by then, I can keep my focus in launching my business. Then, I'll be working all of July, most of August and September (with only 3 days off in August, and 4 days off in September). My shifts are to cover vacation of my teammates, so, I'm most busy with work through the summer to Christmas.

@Jaeteuk

Hey, jaeee (:

That sounds like an excellent plan for your business. it sounds like you have done a super job planning things out and getting your business up and running!

That sounds super frustrating that people are taking advantage of you because you are working more than them, even more, when they fail to take the time to acknowledge it. A simple genuine thank you can go a long way. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be recognized for the extra work you are putting in. It's not easy to work in an environment that is not positive. Your work environment is importnant and can influence and impact your work. They don't sound like the people you can rely on to help you when you need it or embody a teamwork mindset. It can be challenging to work with them. I can understand those thoughts that you are having.

It sounds like a problem that could be worked on and improved. Sometimes all you need is a good leader in bringing a team together. Unfortunately, your manager has not taken you seriously. The team's camaraderie is affecting you. It's not fair that you have to be doing their work. You are getting paid to do your work, and they get paid to do their job. You deserve not to have your team members' extra stress and work and not be recognized. It seems its taking its toll on your mental health.

I hope you can enjoy the breaks you have to work on your business. Sounds like you are very busy just in general. Hope you get some time to be taking care of yourself too. (:

Today was my first day back to work in the last month and there were 2 sick calls, so I had to stay 3 hours overtime to get the evening shift tasks done. I left at 6:30pm, when the original evening shift colleague is supposed to leave at 8pm. I just ended up taking my half hour break at 6pm, then left at 6:30pm. Started my shift at 7:30am, not going to stay until 7pm. When I work the evening shifts, I do a 11am - 7pm shift, while the other colleague works the 12pm - 8pm time slot. I find 8pm a bit too late, especially if overtime is needed, and trying to find parking working the noon shift is very difficult to find space.

Yes, it's very unfortunate that my Manager didn't seem like she did much to solve the problem. The colleague left me a note from last week for me (she's off this week), reminding me of tasks I need to do during her shift. She listed like 7 things, where 4 of them were tasks that she often doesn't do and I end up doing when I started at 11am. So, I just folded the note and kept the other 3 tasks as a reminder for myself.

It was quite busy today, I lot of running around, going up and down the stairs, and using the big public elevators. If you haven't seen my previous posts, I work in a hospital, in the Operating Room department as an Aide. So not a nurse. We usually have a mini elevator within the department where instruments and carts are sent up directly from the basement (we're on the main floor, hospital only has 3 floors, basement, Main, and 2nd floor). So, our clean lift broke last Thursday. So, today, it was busy in a sense, where when the nurses called for instruments, I had to physically go downstairs to get it. And when I need something or send papers downstairs, I have to bring it myself. I always try and take use the stairs when I don't have something on wheels. So, I did A LOT of walking today. Working a 7:30am to 6:30pm shift, I've walked more than 17,000 steps today! Crazy, or normal shift is usually only about 12,000 steps, that is when the clean lift is working. Hope tomorrow is better, that at least one person returns to work tomorrow. If it's 2 sick calls again, tomorrow might be busier than today. Today, there were only 5 OR's running, and tomorrow we're back to 6 rooms. It was also more busy in this morning compared to after 11am, as the department below us was also short-staffed. So they weren't able to walk the instruments up, and we had to go down to get them instead.

Fingers crossed that tomorrow is a better day!~
