Procrastinating or too afraid?

Hi! Newbie here. I learned about this app via some friend on another app. I hope I could be free to state what's bothering me here. I honestly find it hard to express myself much more share my problems. As a mental health nurse, I really tried hard to be a strong and dependable person. I don't know I am just procrastinating about my upcoming exam. I need to pass it to pursue my career abroad. I want to do it but I am too afraid to fail. What if I fail? What if I spend a lot on this exam and I won't make it? What are the odds of me passing the exam wherein some of my colleagues tried multiple timesand still fail? Am I afraid to take the exam because I don't want to spend my hard earned money on something that I am not sure about? Or I am procrastinating because I really don't want to leave my job and my comfort zone? But working on that institution isn't good for my mental health anymore. Or am I waiting for some changes in management that may somehow affect my decision to leave? I am quite torn on my decision. In the end, it seems that my problem is not about taking the exam, but leaving my current job. I know I sound nonsense, but I am really confused. I want to leave yet I want to stay. I dream to work somewhere but I am afraid to start elsewhere.😓

Hello.
I have to say you aren't in a situation that is uncommon. But if you have realized that it's not good for your mental health then moving on is in your best interest. So if I were you I would do some plain thinking and arrive at a clear-cut decision which is to prioritize the new job you are looking at.
In your case, it is quite obvious you are procrastinating because you are clinging to your comfort zone. Going through post makes me think you should work towards the exam with single-minded dedication and determination. Once you makeup your mind you will notice that you will not procrastinate anymore and work towards your goal.
Hope this will help you fight your procrastination.
All the best.

You are definitely right. I am clinging and refusing to detach myself on an institution that is not good for my mental health. I should plan my next steps, baby steps but I will surely get there. I really hope I have the courage to get over any obstacles.

Oh wow, a mental health nurse! It sounds like a very difficult career if you aren't too careful with your own mental health being affected with the patients you work with. Our own mental health is just as important, since you know that if you continue on with your current job, it will put a toll on your own mental health; do make those baby steps in studying for this exam. Colleagues failing the exam doesn't mean you will too! You could find the drive/motivation to ace this exam through goals you want to achieve. You know that you want to go abroad when you pass this exam, use that as your drive to study and pass this exam.

Although, not a nurse myself, but I do work in a hospital. It's been 3 years only, and I'm excited for a chance to start a new career. I'm willing to travel abroad for any place that will want to hire me (recently completed and passed a Certificate program, nothing to do with the medical field), and excited for a new chapter in my life. I've never really left my country, unless it was for vacationing with my parents before Covid, going abroad for vacations, had been less than 5 times. For myself, I'm actually looking forward to travel and work abroad, I'd like to see the world, meet more people, expand my social network (I don't have any friends, and been single for nearly 2 decades, going to be mid-30 next year).

It's good to have dreams, and working our ways towards that dream makes it even better. It took me a couple of years to make this decision, to go back to school (in the middle of earning a Diploma), just to reach that dream job of mine. With this Certificate, I'm one step closer. I met another colleague at work recently, she suggested to work under the same terms as her position, although still with the same Employer, but not under the Union. Which she mentioned, is exactly the same, when referring to benefits and pensions. Only difference is that in her wages, there are no Union fees deducted per paycheque, yearly increase based on performance rather than an increase every 5 years with the Union, and hirings are based on experience, not how many hours worked.

Knowing this, if my dream job does not work out for me, I can still return and try to apply to those kind of jobs.

Comfort zones are difficult to step out of, but I believe we can do this! Let's work hard together towards our dream~
