Hello, I'm new - 9 days sober

Hi all,

I joined 7cups to seek help for depression and panic episodes. The past month has been really difficult--I became acutely aware of certain unhealthy cycles. (Honestly, the past 4 years have been emotionally and physically devastating). I realized the tremendous negative effect alcohol has on my mental health and am 9 days sober. I hope to come here to maintain my sobriety.

My reasons for getting and staying free from alcohol:

1) I want to change and stop avoiding negative emotions. (I'm ready to process pain, grief, shame and to confront my anxiety.)

2) Physical health

3) Clarity

4) I want to renew joy and hope

Much love,

Ann

@Clumsyannie even though I don't know you, I am proud of you for taking this step. 9 days may not seem like a whole lot in comparison to months or even years, but it is huge to make it past the daily hurdles. Keep up the good work and stay strong.

You need to start accepting the boredom and monotony.

Also, I feel if you want to remove one bad habit, add one good habit. I do mandalas after stopping my addiction. Stop hanging with those friends too who tempt you.

It takes around 9-10 weeks to stop getting the urges. Good luck!

Hello, you’re doing awesome. It took me three times a rehab to do but it can be done when you’re ready. Please know that a slip up doesn’t have to be a relapse, it can just be a slip up. Keep moving forward you’ll get there.

You are so kind. Thank you for checking in. N.O.S.E. continues to be super helpful. Rough/busy few days (I did go into my head a bit and not reach out although I probably should have--homelife just gets very intense sometimes and I do tend to process everything internally) but I've been strong and today is day 45!!

Hope that you are doing well,

Much love,

Ann
