How to handle stress in the moment
When we are faced with a stressful situation we are not able to handle it can feel like a fireworks are exploding in our heads. Clear thinking may be completely impossible and stress is ruling our thinking.
Here are some ways which might help to break this unhelpful mental process and refocus on something more neutral.
Managing Stress in the moment - The three-part approach
The three main techniques to manage stress are to:
Change what you are doing. By interrupting the flow of negative or fearful thoughts, we can calm our mind.
Change what you’re thinking. By choosing to refocus your mind, we can retrain our brain to look for solutions rather than staying stuck on problems.
Accept what you cannot change. This does not mean giving up or giving in. It means learning to make the best of a situation that, at least temporarily, cannot be avoided

Seeking Help
Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

Do you feel that you are constantly worrying about everything? Yes
What helps you to train your brain to not dwell on stressful thoughts? Haven't had much success
@Zeraphim
Letting go of worries can be very hard and make it more difficult to focus on the neutral or positive. It would be great to be free of this. Here is a meditation which, I hope, gives you a mini-break so you can find balance again. If you want to try out more mindfulness practises like grounding in the moment please check here.

Do you feel that you are constantly worrying about everything? lately yes
What helps you to train your brain to not dwell on stressful thoughts? nothing i m consenttly worrying only my ex can cal me down someties and @soulsings
@alysianna
I'm glad that your ex and @soulsings can help you to calm down. I find sometimes a walk and positive self talk can be very supportive too.
@amiablePeace77
i can't take a walk as i am in a fight wit a famly in my hood and my ex and i are friends still so he talks to me every day
@alysianna
Good that you still have your ex as friend to talk to daily. Sorry to hear about the fight though. I hope it will be settled very soon so that peace returns. What are you currently doing to relax after a rough day?
@amiablePeace77
gameing and youtube
@alysianna
Have you ever tried mental health games, like games to reduce anxiety etc.? What type of games are you playing?
@amiablePeace77 This has been happening with me a lot lately. Like even a small thing happens, and I can feel the panic start. It is hard to calm myself down like I used to, some of these techniques that used to work don’t anymore, so I’ve been trying to find new ones.
@PiecesOfWhoeverIWas
Sometimes we need to change our practises to make them more efficient. Dealing with panic is rough for sure!
I believe moving the "panic" with a walk or any other movements (exercise) can be very helpful. You can find the 7cups growth paths which also include panic attacks here . This video helps some people to stop the attacks.
You can always send me a message if you need more resources like the stop technique etc.
For me it depends on what the situation is that’s stressing me out in the moment. For example if a person is stressing me out because of what they’re saying or how they’re behaving or because of the type of people they are, I’d walk away and if I can’t, then I’d try to ignore them or think about something or things that bring me happiness and peace and joy.
@amiablePeace77
Methinks that the only thing that can be done in most cases is just acceptance (resignation in my mind) and knowing that whatever stresses you will be behind you soon. If you stress is really worry about NOT knowing what to expect, it is that ignorance that stresses you.
In most cases, I do not even have the leisure to stop and - say - take a warm bath. In fact, the anti-stress gimmicks would just make me feel guilty on top of the stress.
@Fradiga
Good point about "NOT knowing what to expect"! What helps you in stressful moments?
@amiablePeace77
Being confident that the people work for you out there are used to the situation themselves; You can voice your apprehension and they will have answers. This is for medical situation, but in fact, banks and other administrators are there to help as well.
Some ongoing situations can be stressful just because this event just happened : stopped by the police; car accident; you just broke something and it's not even yours; Your area is getting flooded...
