Longevity
Researchers find that people who adopt eight healthy lifestyle habits by middle age could live substantially longer.
Men who adopt all eight habits by age 40 would be predicted to live an average of 24 years longer than men with none of these habits.
Women who adopted all eight habits by the age of 40 would be predicted to live an average of 23 years longer than women with none of these habits.
The eight identified habits are:
being physically active
not smoking
managing stress
maintaining a good diet
not regularly drinking alcohol excessively
maintaining good sleep hygiene
maintaining positive social relationships
not developing an opioid addiction
But it is never too late to adopt a healthy lifestyle!
Excerpt from How a healthy lifestyle after age 80 can help you live to be 100
It’s not always about reaching longevity but for many people it is about reaching old age and staying mentally and physically fit, staying independent and able to enjoy life! It is not how long you live, but how healthy you are to enjoy every day.

Seeking Help
Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feeling depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if they are related to any mental challenges.

No matter what age you are, what does healthy ageing mean to you? Taking care of my body and mind I reel better about myself as I age. I accept that aging will happen. I t is part of life.
What routines do you follow on a regular basis to help you to stay fit? I do Tai Chi and stretching and some yoga. I eat a high protein low carb diet and it helps prevent my mood swings.
@soulsings
Nice that you can embrace aging soul. I believe aging is a blessing because it means we're alive!
Yoga and tai chi are great ways to practise calm but also to stay flexible what is very important as we age.

Thanks so much for sharing this for those who need it :)
being physically active - I’m physically active but not as much as I can be honestly and I know I need to be more active than I am. I’m working on it.
not smoking - This one just needs to be maintained. Other than that no work or anything needed bc I’ve never smoked anything before and never will for any reason or any person at all ever,
managing stress - Definitely need to work on this more though I believe I’ve gotten better at it as time goes on than I have been in the past.
maintaining a good diet - My current diet just may be the most healthiest it’s ever been. Only thing I need to work on is eating all 3 meals everyday.
not regularly drinking alcohol excessively - Same as what I said about smoking.
maintaining good sleep hygiene - Definitely needs improving. Sometimes I get a good sleep. And most days I wake up in the morning feeling refreshed recharged and energized. Which is great but still needs improvement. Being more physically active and lowering my stress as well as managing it along with other things will help with improving sleep every night.
maintaining positive social relationships - I don’t and have never had any. Used to bother me, make me unhappy and feel negatively and all that about myself and isolate myself as a result of all of that but now while I honestly wouldn’t mind friends and relationships with people I can spend time and hang out and be happy with, I’m happy either way and I believe as long as you’re happy you’ll live as long as you’re meant to live which could mean extending your lifespan.
not developing an opioid addiction - Same as what I said about smoking and alcohol, never did it and will never do it.
No matter what age you are, what does healthy ageing mean to you?
It means being as smart as you can be about your health which includes what you consume (food, liquids) and staying away from alcohol or any other drinks that isn’t purified water and I’m talking about the real purified water, not the stuff they sell in all kinds of stores advertised as purified water to get you to buy it so they financially profit off of you.
I know how difficult it is because of how unhealthy society is now with all that’s out there but if you really care about yourself, your wellbeing, your health as well as that of others you care about, you’ll find a way for yourself and others to consistently consume healthy things and if you don’t know if it’s healthy or not then find out from people, not just one person, if it is healthy or not before consuming whatever it is.
You can snack on whatever once in a while because you gotta have fun too but not so much that you pay a big price for it with your health or worse.
What routines do you follow on a regular basis to help you to stay fit?
I walk when I can. But I’ll be adding more to my regular schedule before 2024 ends. I’m currently working on that actually by making a list of exercise equipment I need to buy.
@akunknown
You seem to know quite well what is good for you and what needs to be increased/improved. I so agree with you on "you gotta have fun too but". Having fun keeps us healthy and young too!
@amiablePeace77
Unfortunately some - I’ll just say some - people take their fun too far to where they overdo it or it’s all they do and suffer the consequences of their own actions and decisions as a result of that. Sometimes it’s even at the expense of their own lives which abruptly end early bc of having too much fun. And by too much fun I mean doing too much drugs, smoking too much, drinking too much, things like that. Minimal fun, great. But too much fun, in fact too much of anything, no good.
@akunknown
Too much of anything is not fun to me but playing with one's health and often addiction.
@amiablePeace77
…….is nowhere near good. Smart people don’t play with things like that. They know better than that.
@amiablePeace77
I do what I can at 72.... and as a former metastatic cancer patient who went through 3 years' worth of treatment, however...
Yes, I am quite active physically, with my smart watch telling me that I walk an average of 11,000 steps a day, about 10 flights of stairs and (involuntary) exercise around 30 mns a day. When I was not living in the countryside, I would use my rowing machine while watching videos or listening to podcasts. I am more tentative with physical efforts, like lifting heavy things or trotting along rather than run, but my vitals and other tests are good. I sleep late but I sleep well and top off with occasional naps (a family tradition).
I do not dwell on the past much and tend to remember the things I have enjoyed most. I still make plenty of discoveries, and like to learn more in my fields of interest. I do notice that it is harder for me to retain information like appointments, new people's names for example. So I am even more forgetful than I used to be. Living in the countryside makes me feel a lot more positive. The outdoors smell good and as I write, there seems to be a long discussion between crows and jackdaws, with an occasional raven also calling. The young are learning to fly, I think, so all those adult birds are watching and encouraging them. See? I live in the moment and got off-topic as usual 🙂
@Fradiga cancer is a cruel illness😥 but you are a survivor, and I'm so happy your here ❤ living in the moment is the best way, I try to do that as often as I can ❤ where you live in the countryside, is a dream come true for many people. That's a lot of steps😮 your very fit, stairs are my enemy ♿♿ 😂😂😂 your positive outlook on life, is just amazing, every one could learn a lot from you ❤
@amiablePeace77 I'm not going to live a very long life, doctors said it would be a miracle of I live to 40. But I don't smoke I don't drink, I got a great bedtime routine, I try my best to eat healthy when I can. I do gentle stretches and exercises, so I'm trying my very best to prove those doctors wrong, and to keep away complete paralysis for as long as I can 😁❤
@Tinywhisper11
I have had hunch from some time back that you are not in good health 🥵. I do not know what you suffer from, but here is something that my husband did when he knew he was going to pass away. He had been a smoker who had gone cold turkey when his first wife became pregnant, and he decided to just go again for this pleasure, with cigarillos to boot! I was sure that he was having a good moment when I sniffed the air from the next room, so I didn't mind at all - au contraire. This is why you might reconsider some of those precautions which, by the way, have nothing do with your illness.
💖 So since you said you liked the way I think.... I thought I'd give you a little more 🧑🦳
@Fradiga trigger warning, just in case.....you mean, to just have fun, live my life while I can. ❤ the thing I want to do the most is go out, I want to see the seaside, go to a zoo, see a waterfall in the forest, be on top of a mountain, socialise, maybe I'd even make friends, just do things that every One else seems to do. But I can't, I'm still under government protection, I have no family, I live in a carehome. I'm not well enough to look after myself. I guess I'm still not free. I don't think I can change my situation.
@Tinywhisper11
Well, I hope you still have things you enjoy doing. I understand why 7cups is a good platform for you
@Fradiga 🙂 I do have lots I get to enjoy, and I'm very happy I have a good life here ❤thankyou for caring, your very sweet
such a great finding!
