Opposite Action Skill
Do you know the feeling of waking up in the morning and not wanting to leave the bed because so many negative thoughts come up in your head and make you lose the courage to face the day?
DBT skills like the “Opposite Action Skill” can be very helpful in getting us back on track.
For example:
Depression gets us ready to be inactive. It activates us to avoid contact.
The opposite would be getting active. So instead of staying in bed get up and do a few exercises like stretching, walk around the room clapping your hands like if you want to cheer yourself up or do anything to become active.
Participation question:
What is a feeling you have which causes an action that is not helpful?
What could be an opposite action?

The feeling if not wanting to complete something procrastination can start small and snowball. It can be debilitating! However I am that indeed a procrastinator on some things … but I also love to check lists to help me get focused and have a plan … then ready to dig in and get it done. Organizing is that for me I hate it but love it when it is done. 💯💯💯💯💕💕💕💕

What is a feeling you have which causes an action that is not helpful?
When I get irritated when things do not turn out as I expected them too it can turn into anger
What could be an opposite action? An opposite reaction is to explore my irritation and even laugh at it or sit down and figure out what I expected to happen.

I feel less motivated to complete any DIY tasks and socialise.
To help I could start off doing little jobs to complete around the house first before getting to big ones like painting my shed. In terms of socialising not sure... I've started here on 7 cups.
