Staying present series Part 3 of 4
When you live in the moment, you are fully present and aware of the emotions and thoughts that you have right now. However, staying present is not always easy for us and there are many reasons why we find it difficult to stay in the now.
It's easy for us to get caught up in our thoughts about the past or the future. Our minds wander, and we often catch ourselves thinking about other things. If we're not careful, these daydreams can quickly turn into worries and catastrophizing, creating crises where there really are none.
Here is a technique which can help to ground yourself to stay present when emotions become overwhelming:
Emotions exercise
Allowing emotions to be present in yourself without judging or trying to neutralize them; practicing the naming/labeling of the emotions and allowing them to arise and letting them go.
How to Get in Touch With Your Feelings... and Why It Matters

Seeking Help
Mental stress can cause us not to be able to see the good things in life and lead to excessive rumination or worries which can result in serious health problems. If you have serious, long-term problems with negative thinking and feel depressed, see your doctor or talk to a therapist if you feel they are related to any mental challenges.

Stick with routine doing the heavy work of chores helps a ton.
When I am overwhelmed I feel stuck. I struggle to find balance. But I remind myself better days are ahead.
I try to take care of myself … music helps, using a journal, sleep and be kind to myself. Mindfulness helps a ton … 💕
@SunShineAlwaysGrateful you are always so kind and compassionate to yourself and others.
@soulsings

How are you dealing with overwhelming emotions? I think for me overwhelming emotions are ones that get control and take over.
What helps you to not get caught up in them? I try to prevent the emotions from taking over by STOP technique and by creating a mindful space by focusing on the breatth.
@soulsings
I find the Dbt STOP technique ( Stop, Take a step back, Observe, Proceed mindfully) very helpful to with overwhelming emotions.
@amiablePeace77 yes thanks for listing the steps.
