The gut-brain axis - Gut bacteria

The gut-brain axis is a channel by which the food we eat, after it is broken down by digestive enzymes and acted upon by the trillions of bacteria living in the gut, shapes our moods, our cognitive function, our reactivity to stress, our memory operations, how the brain ages, and much more.

Gut bacteria affect brain health, so changing your gut bacteria may improve your brain health.

Fermented foods

Foods that are high in carb, sugar, and fatty acids trigger the brain's reward system, which is why it’s comforting to you. While sometimes you can chalk it up to stress or just being in the mood for a specific food, there are reasons why you may be craving these unhealthy foods more often than you’d like.

If you have serious, long-term problems with managing your stress levels and/or unhealthy food cravings please consider seeing your doctor or talking to a therapist if you suspect those symptoms are related to your mental health challenges.

@amiablePeace77 What do you eat for good gut bacteria?

I eat lots of veggies and yogurt and try to stick to veggie protein but I do have eggs and dairy. I avoid sugar and use a minimum of salt. I feel good.

@amiablePeace77 at this point I am on a special diet due to health.

I just made up a dish of cooked white rice, olive oil, peanut butter, honey, brown sugar, cinnamon. Threw in some coffee a bit of spice and heated til hot, and it is tasty delish and nutrient dense!

@WorkingitThrough2

Good idea to get a variety of strains of probiotic bacteria into the gut! I also make my own Kombucha to get those bacteria, it's at a very low cost and to me quite tasty!

@amiablePeace77 oh I really struggle to eat any food. I'm not healthy. I actually weigh just under 60 pounds. But remember I only have half a bidy. So I'm not doing bad

@Tinywhisper11

Living with disability is definitively not easy in this fast paced world, hugs. I admire everyone who does not let their disability make them feel stuck but still do something they can and not forget to smile! 💙

@Tinywhisper11 I hope you eat your food. When I do not eat enough I get depressed and anxious. Food helps me. Try it and see.
