France is a place with cafes where people gather to discuss interesting topics. This may be the way it was traditionally although modern life may have pushed that out of the cities I guess.

I am from France and I am surprised to hear about "cages". You were talking about "cafés", rather? Maybe one reason why the French frequent those so often is because most are not expensive at all. It is also where you often buy tobacco and lottery tickets, read the papers or watch whatever channel is on the screen. Some also will hold packages for you. However, the conversations in cafés et restaurants are never loud. :D Most of the noise comes from the espresso machines

Those expresso machines can be truly loud! 😀 I loved to sit in a cafe in Paris enjoying a fresh croissant with marmelade and an expresso in the morning.

The word is "eSpresso" and is pronounced with that S. The "X" does not exist in the Italian alphabet. However, it is so close to "express" that a lot of us use that X.

Acquired family habit here. We do like to digest our food lying down. Depends on the length of the previous night and/or the temperature outside

I happen to love Japanese sencha, which I discovered while I lived in Japan. I use a website from Japan to buy the REAL thing on the cheap. The tea ceremony is rarely performed and made with another type of tea ground into powder. One thing most Japanese homes have is a machine which keeps the water to the exact temperature one needs to make tea, and THAT is something I'd love to have.

Thanksgiving Day Celebration in United Kingdom Thanksgiving Day in UK'Harvest Festival' as is popularly known, is one of the oldest festivals in United Kingdom. It began in churches in the year 1843, when Robert Hawker invited local parishioners to a special thanksgiving service at a church in Cornwall. This resulted in the custom of decorating churches with home-grown products. In the old times, the success of crops determined the success or failure of the people. The natives of UK, pleased the God of fertility by offering him the first sheaf of corn. This was done to ensure a good harvest in the coming season. The ritual of offering an animal sacrifice, generally a hare, is accompanied with the cutting of last sheaf of corn. It is said that the last sheaf of corn contains its spirit. "corn dolls" are made to symbolize Goddess of grain. The entire community is invited for a celebratory dinner as part of the festivity. It is held every year in the month of September, on a Sunday nearing the harvest moon. This festival is however not declared a national holiday.
@soulsings I knew the harvest was celebrated here, and I know school children do a little church play to celebrate, and local supermarkets bake and deliver a special load of bread to each of the schools, in the area. But I didn't realise all that. Thankyou for teaching me this 🤗❤❤❤
