Can We Heal Without Closure?

User Profile: AngyA

🌿 An Emotionally Mature Question:

“Do you believe true emotional healing is possible without closing old wounds — or is it the acceptance of those wounds that truly empowers us?”

I’d really love to hear your thoughts or personal experiences if you’re open to sharing. 🩷

@AngyA

Great question! Sometimes we have no choice but to try to heal without closure. Now would it be better to treat the wounds and close them up? Yes, but that is not always possible. We have to learn to move on without answers and accept the reality we have been handed.

@Remina Thank you so much for sharing this — I really agree with your point. Closure isn’t always something we’re given, and learning to move forward without it takes a lot of strength. 🌿 Was there a moment in your life when you felt you had to accept a situation without full understanding or answers? If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear more. 🩷

You're welcome! And I appreciate you asking! I don't really like to share too much about my personal life on my listener account however tying it back to my listener account, I have had to deal with the loss of listener friends. People leave, and it hurts, and we don't get closure when they go. We have to learn to just let in new people and do it all over again.

@AngyA closure? You mean like forgive and forget?? I really hope we can heal without closure. Trigger warning - bad things...... I was kept captive for years by bad people I lost my son there and I'm disabled because of them 🙁 I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to forgive. But I hear people talking about this alot so maybe it depends on your situation. 💖💖

@Tinywhisper11  Thank you so much for sharing something so deeply personal — I can only imagine how much pain and strength are held in your words. I don’t think anyone has to forgive in order to heal, especially when the harm was that severe. Sometimes healing means simply surviving, honoring your truth, and finding ways to feel safe again. Your perspective adds so much depth to this conversation, and I truly appreciate your voice. 💜

@Tinywhisper11 Yes, that truly does sound like healing. 💜 It’s not always easy to recognize progress when you’re still in the middle of it, but your words show how far you’ve really come. Keep going — your strength and self-awareness are already making a difference. 🌿

What an interesting question, Angy!

Can we heal without closure?

I can't say for certain, nor can I make any promises.
But what I can say is that we can always try.
Not having closure isn't easy, and it can affect us in so many ways.
Having words that we never got to say, not hearing words we needed to hear,
it's definitely not easy. But sometimes we can help ourselves find our own closure.
And that comes with talking, with having someone listen to us, to the words we hadn't
been able to say to the person we wanted to say them to.
What I've suggested to those who've asked for a suggestion is to write a letter or do some
art related to the emotions that we have about the person or the lack of closure.
So, writing a letter and then tearing it up or something akin to that can be helpful.

@AnnaSilverberg Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and insightful response. 💙 The way you described finding your own closure really resonates — especially through creative expression like writing or art. It’s such a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t always depend on the other person; sometimes, it’s about giving ourselves the space to release and process what was left unsaid. ✨ I’m really grateful you shared this. 🌿

That’s such a raw and honest point , memories really do have a way of reopening wounds. It’s not always a straight path, and setbacks don’t mean we’ve failed. Sometimes healing looks like simply learning how to carry the pain a bit differently over time. 💭🌿

Idk. My stepdad died without ever apologizing for his abuse. My dad died too. He kinda made amends but not super well. Like, the pain is still there.

A man physically abused me 2 years ago. Why? I never found out. He gave me PTSD toward all other men.

So I guess… idk.

Thank you so much for sharing something so deeply painful. You’ve carried so much without ever getting the answers or apologies you deserved. It’s completely valid to not know how you feel about healing — it’s a complicated and deeply personal process. Sometimes just surviving each day is a form of strength. Your voice matters, and I truly admire your courage in opening up. 💜

That's a tricky question.

On one hand, I believe that emotional wounds are experiences we tend to process best by retriggering them in safe ways. Like in a therapeutic setting. Where we can focus on what emotions the wound evokes and understanding why it's there, then taking any necessary steps to begin working on closing it.

On the other hand, I believe that closure isn't something that happens on a physical level. It's more of a spiritual journey where through faith in something greater than ourselves, we can be restored. Kinda like giving up the emotions and experiences for a higher power to carry.

All-in-all, I believe that wounds heal in the right environment where they can receive the proper care. Whether that's here on Earth or a realm beyond.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and heartfelt perspective. I really like how you describe healing as both a therapeutic process here on Earth and a spiritual journey beyond it. It’s true that wounds need the right environment and care to heal, whether through support, understanding, or faith. Your insight adds a beautiful layer to this conversation. 🌿🐠

@AngyA

My approach always has been to dig deeper into the question. What exactly is emotional healing? How do we define emotional pain? Let's say emotional pain is a consequence of some impediment that came across our normal flow of life. It upended the normal flow so much that it resulted in disbalancing of some hormones in our brains that resulted in emotional and psychological suffering. Closure is resuming the normal flow of life. Generally with time closure is inevitable, but we don't let nature run its course. We overthink. We get flashbacks. We hold on to the trauma(impediment), and hence closure becomes harder and harder. So while you definitely need a closure to move on with your life and heal emotionally, the closure in itself doesn't have to do anything about the impediment(read traumatic event) in itself. There are multiple ways to close that chapter and move on. But unfortunately, most people don't talk about them. Because they themselves don't understand how the human brain works, despite being an "expert" in their fields.

@BlatantHonesty

Thank you for this deep and clear explanation. You’ve really highlighted how emotional healing involves restoring balance and how our minds can sometimes make closure harder by holding onto trauma. It’s so true that closure doesn’t always mean forgetting or fixing the event itself, but finding ways to move forward despite it. Your insight about the brain and how we process trauma adds a valuable perspective to this important topic. 🌿

That’s very true , healing isn’t always a straight path, and triggers can bring up old wounds unexpectedly. But recognizing this helps us prepare and take gentle care of ourselves when it happens. 🌱

Absolutely, focusing on letting go can be a powerful way to find peace, especially when closure or answers aren’t possible. Sometimes acceptance itself becomes the healing. 🌿

Do I believe true emotional healing is possible without closing old wounds? First, it is coming to acceptance but it is not acceptance of old wounds. The healing comes when we accept that closure from another person might not ever come and if it does come, it’s only that person’s point of view and not the end all, be all of truths. What matters is how we feel about ourselves. Improving how we feel about ourselves happens when we become more aware of the positive things in our lives and the positive things about ourselves, meaning practicing gratitude and self-talk. Getting something from the external source that hurt us will most likely lead to more confusion. Do you really care what they have to say OR do you care about what you think? People will hurt us. It’s a part of life. It’s also their problem. How you love yourself is the solution. And remember, time heals all wounds.

@WhimsicalWhimsy

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful perspective. I really like how you highlight that healing starts with accepting that closure from others might never come—and that our focus should be on how we feel about ourselves. Practicing gratitude and positive self-talk can be truly empowering tools on that journey. It’s a powerful reminder that self-love is key to healing, even when time and circumstances don’t give us all the answers. 🌟
