@soulsings

I learned different ways from the ones I knew to make vegan cheeses. It's interesting how many prebiotic foods there are which can help us to improve our microflora what in turn helps with digestive health, example chick peas.

Total Size of the Universe, @soulsings

While the observable Universe, that is, all the space we can see because light had enough time to reach us since the Big Bang (14 billion years ago), has a diameter of about 92 billion light-years (containing several hundred billion galaxies), estimates of the total size of the Universe (using Cosmology models) give a diameter of at least 23 trillion light-years, that is over 250 times in diameter and 15 million times larger in volume than the observable part of the Universe, the part we can see with large telescopes, space telescopes, and radio telescopes. It might be much larger, this is the lowest-possible current estimate.

@HealingTalk wow that is totally mind-blowing. And here we are on this little blue speck in a vast universe that we call home.

Yes! It is!

I was intrigued about this from a chat with a fellow Cupser who pointed me to the wonderful documentary "A Trip to Infinity" by Netflix.

The vastness is mind-blowing, and it's also puzzling that the Universe might have a finite size (which is huge and expanding).

And it's also fascinating that we are on this tiny, tiny pale blue dot in the middle of that huuuge vastness!

Thank you, @soulsings for creating this wonderful thread with such an engaging topic!

@HealingTalk you are wonderful.

If you tire of exploring this vast universe, there is a whole inner world inside that is unbounded and amazing.

Thank you @Soulsings !

I appreciate a lot your words, coming from you.

And I agree 100%

The huge Universe is awe-inspiring, but, even if there is life and other civilizations somewhere out there, it is almost 100% inert matter (we and those are the infinitesimal exceptions).

We are tiny tiny in physical terms, but we have Consciousness, Emotions, and an inner life.

Even regarding the Universe, it's only through us (and maybe other conscious beings somewhere far away) that it's perceived and admired.

We are awesome creatures, awesome beyond words.

And it's fascinating and wonderful to be aware of this and fully appreciate it.

Thank you again for this great, "Fascinating" thread!

It wasn't "lately" but the most interesting facts I learned within the last two years are about intelligence quotients...

Yes, IQ is real. Anyone who says it does not measure anything hasn't looked at any research within the last two decades at least.

Some other factoids:

  • The maximum possible human IQ is 200. Hardly anyone ever reaches it; even geniuses are usually not that far above 160.
  • At or below the low end of average (the average is something like 85-115), overall cognition is negatively effected, to wit:
  • at 80-85, people often don't understand hypotheticals, i.e. "suppose you went to Springfield on Thursday morning". A response like "But I never went to Springfield on Thursday" show a lack of comprehension.
  • Below 80, people have little awareness of time. They have very little concept of the past, no concept of the distant past & do not plan for the future.
  • Below 70, a lack of basic responsibility is displayed. Such people usually can't hold down jobs; at most they can work a very simple one.
  • in the lower ranges, there is also an intersection with ASPD among a certain %age. Having a conscience requires an ability to imagine oneself in someone else's situation among other things. At 78 & below one lacks the ability to mentally model such a scenario. An inability to conceive of oneself anywhere other than one's own circumstances can easily lead to a lack of empathy for others. Such people tend to rack up jail time.
