Fears refer to a client's emotional responses to perceived threats, real or imagined. These fears can manifest as anxiety, avoidance, or distress and may be rooted in past experiences, trauma, or cognitive distortions. They often fall into different categories, such as, Rational Fears – Based on real dangers (e.g., fear of physical harm), Irrational Fears (Phobias) – Disproportionate or unrealistic fears (e.g., fear of public speaking), Emotional Fears – Fear of rejection, failure, or abandonment, Existential Fears – Fear of death, meaninglessness, or loss of control.

@AshleyNFlewellenLPC  right now I have rational and existential fears (probably all the other kinds too, but right now just those two) I have injections every few months in my spine, it really helps. But it's always scary, one wrong move and it's game over. But my appointment has been pushed back twice now🙁 and my anxiety levels are rising, and I'm in sooooo much pain. Can't wait for this to be over with

If this question had been asked a lot earlier in my life, I probably would have had a ton of answers.

But then I now know that there was nothing to fear for myself.

Fear has governed a big chunk of my life but I'm improving.

I fear judgments and critiques of people - mostly because I don't find them reasonable and it makes me angry at a sort of injustice.

I fear failure. This is being hopeless. Something I'm working on by setting small goals and improving my confidence with their success so I can go on to build something bigger.

Failure, rejection, (emotional) abandonment, loss of control, & Non-constructive criticism are all things I have dealt with big time all my life. I don’t think I fear them per we, but I hate them & do tend to avoid situations where they may happen.

I used to fear being around people and being perceived and feeling their opinions because I grew up with social anxiety and selective mutism due to autism. I'm proud that I've worked hard to outgrow these fears through a lot of personal work.
