Forgiveness

Is there anything you need to forgive, whether it's yourself or someone else, to let go of anger, sadness, or feeling bad about yourself?

Yes, but I don’t think I can, it’s such a deep hurt, and the pain it caused me has been almost unbearable. I want to but I think the pain will always be there, so why do it?
@amiablePeace77
I really struggle with forgiveness.
I understand it as a concept and the rational part of my mind understands it's healing powers and it's necessity.
But I have so much hurt lingering still and I find it hard as some things aren't forgivable in my opinion.
It's a very personal construct 🩷
@Amanda84
I completely relate to what you stance.
@amiablePeace77 Yes I need find ways to forgive the pain and damage my daughters partner has done to my entire family including my daughters little girl and one I been working on forgiving for years and havent quite got there yet is forgiving myself.

I don’t need to forgive myself bc whatever I did I had a damn good valid reason for doing it. As for anyone else they don’t deserve any forgiveness much less anything else from me 👎👎

i have let go of a lot forgiven many things both with self and others but i believe forgiveness is a choose at first but it also not got a time line in the end can be done in layers like with loosing my kids i forgiven self and others in layers i not sure all the layers have been forgiven but as i heal from losing the kids i find new layers that need forgiven actions in but i did not know them layers until now might be more layers to come too
with the abuse from others i also find i forgive things i know the layers but then new layers come up as i heal too then i forgive them layers but it a work over time just like healing is too
so yes i have more to forgive but some of that i not know yet the layers peal away one layer ay a time too
@stormieandpaws
I believe the most painful thing for a parent is to lose their kids, and letting go of that hurt and healing takes time and effort.
@amiablePeace77
thank you at first i was scared to talk about this part of my story here due to in past i said about losing my parental rights i was told only abusers loss their parental rights and banned from a abuse survivors forum/chat when i need support the most it took me down a very bad road due to being rejected and called a abuser but i not found that to be true here most here have shown compassion and understanding give support not pushing and judgments due to some things in my life journey for that i thankful for 7 cups
I struggle with this concept. I logically understand the purpose of forgiveness, but my emotional side feels like there are certain things that you cannot be forgiven for. People who have done things to me as a child…it is unforgivable. Thats also my main issue with religion. Any sinner can be forgiven if they truly repent. I do not agree. Some things are completely unacceptable.

Things have happened to everyone to various degrees, but some of us have more trouble dismissing them. Sure there are unpleasant things which happened when I was young, but once I became an adult, I felt free of things which were in the past. After all, I was now empowered.
An ex-boyfriend of mine, at 50, still held a grudge against a nun whom, he said, used to confiscate his pocket money. He heard she had died in a plane crash and told me: "Good! I hope she got scared too!" and I could tell that wasn't the way I would have felt.
@rationalPrune8628
Also, since you mention religion, God is known to be merciful. That's an idea!
Forgiving others is difficult, I always believed you had to forgive them for your own sake in order to heal, but I’ve learnt that sometimes when someone has caused you immense pain, you don’t always have to forgive them. Not everyone deserves your forgiveness.
However, I do think forgiving YOURSELF is the most important thing you could ever do. Although, sometimes it can be even more difficult than forgiving another person. It takes a lot of time to face yourself and tell yourself it’s okay to make mistakes. There’s plenty of things I need to learn to forgive myself for and the list is never ending. I hope one day I’ll be able to.
