I believe that in a healthy friendship people give each other space, not feel worried that the other person is leaving them if they do not hear from each other for a little while and support each other.

Qualities: Honesty, loyalty, fairness, kindness

@soulsings I don't know🤔🤔 I never got to talk to anyone or socialise for 18 years. And now my friends are on this site, so I guess just supporting each other, having a joke around and showing you care ❤😁

@soulsings For me healthy friendship is one where we are doing things just for the betterment and happiness of each other and one with understanding and loyalty.

I think what matters the most to me is making efforts and taking the time out to be there. Showing up on time is very important.

Friendships most often revolves around shared time and experiences. It takes time to go from someone-you-get-along-with to an actual friend. I had four friends from my childhood, but two died already. We talk and visit. There are times when they do not agree with what I do or don't do and I feel the same way about them, but the bond is just too precious, especially as we grow older.

I got angry in 2014 with my good friend Claire who betrayed my trust. I wanted to keep to myself the disastrous news about my last mammogram, but as she asked, I didn't lie. I underlined immediately that it was a secret she was entrusted with. I would come out only when I would know more. Within days, her daughter and sister called me about it. So I wrote Claire an email to let her know that our friendship was important and I would not break it. However, I would not keep her updated about my health for a while seeing that my privacy was more important than her need to feed the family conversation. She is a great friend, but not someone I trust 100%. I understand her weakness is to be a blabbermouth but she's got great assets too.

I seldom give up on people. 😀

I am often surprised by people who shop around for friendship. It's not instantaneous at all. Some become friends for a while and when what brought you together is changed, there goes that friendship. I noticed this in the US when I moved away from NY to Canada.

Of course, having friendly relations with anyone is a good starting point, and having little in common sometimes makes this a lot more interesting, if not entertaining.

@Fradiga

I can understand that you felt angry about your friend telling others about the results of your mammogram when you wanted to keep it between you and her. She might have felt overwhelmed and needed to share her feelings. I hope your friendship is still strong even if you know she's not the one to trust 100 % with secrets.

Yeah, we are now separated by an ocean but we do happily chat often. This was an example that friends are never 100% perfect, but the flaw is only - what - 10% of this? Maybe she is putting up with MY flawS too. Our perception is naturally one-sided and it is a mental effort to try see the other's point of view.

@Fradiga hugs you tightly, I'm so glad you survived that horrible disease. So your originally from America? Me too, but now I'm in UK. Other than friendship on this site, well I've never got the chance to go to school, or socialise for 18 years. And I can't now either, so I'm hoping my friends on here will remain good friends😁 I'm glad your still in touch with some of your friends, that must be a special feeling, being true friends ❤ I'm sorry 2 of them have died tjough😥😥

Hi! I was born and raised in France, but by the time I was 22, I moved to Japan for a few years, then three decades around NYC, then 18 years in Montreal, Canada. I am now back to France after 48 years living abroad.

At my age, it is normal to have have friends (and relatives) whose number was up sooner than mine. Yes I still think of those who have gone ahead, but there is no sadness there. Just resignation.

I am glad 7cups fulfills your social needs. 🥰

  • How do you define a healthy friendship? The only thing that defines a healthy friendship to me is being able to trust the person to tell you the truth no matter if I hurt you not
  • What qualities are you seeking for in a friendship? Truthfulness is my main thing because of a personal experience with a family when now all hates meand lied to me about us being cool And then went and told my boyfriend when I leftfor a trip last school yearAnd he told me right away Cuz they had hated me beforeBecause I got overprotective of one of them but they had been being nice to me  I asked the sister When we were  on the busIf we were coolAnd she said yesBut we weren't

I know for a fact his sister still hates me after the incident this morningI was just being myself said nothing to her but just holding the door for everyoneand see whisperedProbably thinking I couldn't hear hersaying oh no it's meShe said my name but for obvious reasons are not going to say my name I'm just hoping that the brother is actually open to being my friendor becomes open to it if I work with him for most of this yearIf he's in there last period of the day I don't know who is anymore

  • How do you define a healthy friendship?

I think in a healthy friendship, both people genuinely care about each other, not just what one gets out of it. It would have balanced give and take for the most part. I think it can be fine if one person tends to give a little more than the other, or if there are tough times when one might take a lot temporarily. As long as both people are truly satisfied. I think all relationships need boundaries of some sort. It can be easy to get wrapped up in caring so much and giving so much that you stop taking proper care of yourself.

  • What qualities are you seeking for in a friendship?

I think the kind of friend I need is someone who’s a little quirky like me, that doesn’t really fit into the mainstream either. Introverts seem to understand me better than extroverts. I want a friend who cares how I’m feeling and can tolerate emotion. I like deep philosophical conversations. I don’t want to talk about money or clothes or make fun of people. It’s be nice to be listened to. I am good at these things and want to offer the same for them. I am praying I meet someone like this in person someday.
