For the clergy, Easter means that a whole liturgical season is behind and many take vacations right after!! In fact, the following Sunday is called either Whitsunday or Quasimodo Sunday and is usually low attendance.
Whitsunday is called like this because a lot of baptisms were happening then and the "candidates" were dressed in white. (Latin word for "white" is either alba or candida.
Quasimodo is due to the introductory prayer said at the Mass that day: Quasi modo geniti infantes... meaning "just as newborns.." and refers to the spiritual nourishment sought by new Christians.
The character created in Victor Hugo's novel was a foundling on that Sunday and following the tradition, was given the name of that day by the good sisters who retrieved and raised him. This is why also many (not all) last names in Europe are Christian names, each day of the calendar having a "name day", a tradition we still carry in France.
