Our Environment Affects Us

when I am feeling  down I start to look around my space and ask myself "Is it clean and organized?" The  answer is usually "No" but I start somewhere and start to clean up and I feel a little bit better.

  • Do you believe that a clean living space  affects our mental and physical well-being?
  • What examples from your own experience can you explain how it affects you?

@soulsings Can I answer these too? 🙂

I definitely think a clean environment helps. I frequently keep my personal space at least somewhat nice, and I also use incense, mood lighting, and decorations to make it feel even more nice. That way it isn't just sterile.

I know what it feels like to be in an environment so messy that it stinks and becomes a hazard. I try to avoid that, as it trips people and also makes my mental state unquestionably worse.

I stopped exercising because the equipment and floor became cluttered for so long, but that exercise used to be what kept me from completely succumbing to the depression-like behaviors.

@BusyBird of course you can answer.

I exercise with 5 minute Tai Chi on youtube which is very simple. Walking is good exercise too.

@soulsings Oh yes I love love love walking. But it's hot here, and I don't like random encounters with my neighbors. They're nosy and such...

@soulsings

One hundred percent.

Clutter gives me anxiety.

It makes me feel closed in.

Out of control.

I can concentrate.

Cleaning and decluttering for me is quite therapeutic and it gives me peace and calm 💙🤗

@soulsings

Is this a repeat question because it's giving me deja vu?

Do you believe that a clean living space affects our mental and physical well-being?

Yes.

What examples from your own experience can you explain how it affects you?

Cluttered living spaces make me anxious and I feel stuck until I've cleared up the mess.

Whenever I am lazy to fold the clothes I just toss them in my wardrobe. When I open the next day and see the pile, I feel super unorganised.

@trueconfidant123 I tend to not be really neat putting clothes in the drawer.

@soulsings

Cluttering can stimulate anxiety. It definitely helps to reduce it by decluttering abd organizing. Not only a clean space helps but also a clean personal hygiene. Whenever I feel down, a good shower helps or a relaxing hot tub. Skincare routines takes to another level.

Please try your best not to clean up your space and teach to exhaustion. You will collapse and that can take you back to where your stress and anxiety started. Please be kind to yourself and do things properly and slowly. There is time for everything.

@LadyInSilence I agree I try to do a small job that is not overwhelming and take breaks.

@soulsings

If my home (inside and outside) is not clean or things are lying around, my brain constantly gives notifications: "This has to be done" when I pass those spots, so brain energy is wasted on these notifications. Sometimes I can't do things straight away, so I schedule them. That helps, but if smaller things are concerned, I will do them straightaway.

@amiablePeace77 I get those notices too! Small jobs are more doable
