Out of My Comfort Zone
We all have a 'comfort zone,' things we feel are easy for us to do and comfortable too.
- If you care to share a personal experience where you stepped out of your comfort zone, it could be a lesson for us all.?
- How did it feel?

@soulsings I never actually saw the outside world for 18 years. Then straight to hospital then escorted plane ride to the uk, where I was taken straight to the care home I live in. I don't remember much about the hospital or getting here. I started to learn about the world and see photos and pictures, but never saw any of it for myself. To afraid, and unsure, I stayed in the care home till about a year ago, I waited till dark (assuming it would be quiter and safer) and forced myself to go outside the gates. The first time I'd ever actually seen a street a regular street, but I was amazed by its beauty. Houses all in a row, so many cars parked beside the road on both sides of the street, trees and gardens and talk posts with lights at the top that lit the street up so beautifully. Pictures can't prepare you when you actually see it for yourself😍 I went out a few more times after that, not far from the care home, but each time just in awe of all things that I was surrounded by. Then unfortunately something happened. Nothing bad to me, or bad experience outside. Just had news, and I've been to scared to leave ever since.But one-day I'm gonna be a explorer🙂 and see everything there is to see ❤
@Tinywhisper11 I think you'll be an awesome explorer! 😄 I hope you get to see and experience all the wonders of the world ❤️
@mytwistedsoul 😁❤ thankyou, I hope so too
@Tinywhisper11 you are brave to go outside after having so much trauma.
Does the care home have a van? Maybe you could ask them to take you on a ride sometime.
I do not know if you can access this site but it has 30,000 pictures of the world. That might be one way to see the world. https://pixabay.com/images/search/world/

@soulsings I tried to access it, but it wouldnt let me😟 but I'll ask my carers to show me 😁, I love to see photos and pictures people took/did ❤ the carehome as a mininbus, they do day trips sometimes throughout the year. But I never go, but that's ok I'll go one day🙂 thanks soul, gives you a giant tiny hug ❤
@soulsings I don’t have a specific story, just a few instances where I have stepped outside my comfort zone to socialize. I used to be more outgoing when I was younger, but some traumatic events along the way caused me to stay to myself more and more. Now it’s a big deal to go to an event where I have to talk to people.
Anyway, usually afterward I think “that wasn’t so bad”. In a couple specific cases I actually had a good time, if it coincided with an activity I enjoy. Sometimes they’re still too much for me. A lot of it depends on if I set some controls, like if I just say no to being around certain people who don’t seem to be good for me, or if I limit the time there. If I push myself too much I’ll retreat further afterward. This happened a few years ago because my husband is much more social than me and wants me to do everything with him, and I pushed myself beyond my limits regularly. My nervous system ended up really burnt out.
Last year I booked a room for a few days at a nice resort on the beach. It was a very active place and there was a lot of people there. I went down to the outside bar at night to enjoy the live bands surrounded by strangers. I even went into the ocean - just up to my knees but that was a pretty big deal too
Tbh it was so far out of my comfort zone and what is normal for me. But it was also kind of liberating? A taste of freedom
I was more than ready to go home when the time came though lol. But I survived. I went out of that comfort zone and I survived
@mytwistedsoul congratulations to you. YOU sound like you enjoyed it.
@mytwistedsoul I remember you told us this when talking in another post ❤❤ I really hope you get to go again ❤

I stepped out of my comfort zone in finding a new doctor. It turned out that I made a good decision and the new doctor is very kind and open so I really feel well about it.
I went to a job interview this week. Job interviews are terrifying to me because I have extreme social anxiety. But it actually went well and I was calm. 🤍
@soulsings my pets give me a lot of comfort
@Sun2024
I can so relate Sun, had two dogs and they were amazing! What kind of pets do you have?
@soulsing
I stepped out of my comfort zone to save a very large amount of people’s jobs and to protect investors in an industry and the future of the industry. Although I was informally praised as a hero for doing so by many I have suffered immensely by the perpetrators of a plan to usurp a US service and privatize it for a few financial gain. I am threatened daily over it, harassed and intentionally harmed by those who wanted to privatize it and thought I did this because I was a victim of the plan I suffer everyday from it. I wonder what my life would be like again had it not all happened and I have been financially struggling as well.
When I studied abroad in Japan during my undergrad, I got out of my comfort zone in many different ways since it was living in a different culture. What really got me out of my comfort zone was when I traveled by myself using the transportation system.
