Good morning my beautiful community! I hope everyone is having a happy Monday. Today, I'd like to talk a little bit about boundaries and how they can be good for our mental health.

Emotional boundaries define separateness. Your emotional boundaries are the property lines that separate your thoughts and feelings from those of other people. Boundary setting is an important part of self-care and is critical in creating healthy relationships, increasing self-esteem, and reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.

Boundaries protect your personal self by setting a clear line between what is me and what is not me. Boundaries are important because they set the basic guidelines of how you want to be treated by others and it also shows others how they are to behave around you. A boundary also prevents you from rescuing someone from the consequences of their destructive behavior that they need to experience in order to grow. In short, boundaries are very helpful to have!

I would LOVE to know the following:

1. Do you feel establishing boundaries are important for mental health?

2. It's Monday! How is work? How is school? How are YOU doing?

I feel it's really important to be aware of your own boundaries and make them clear to others. But often I value myself too little to actually guard my boundaries. If someone requests something of me that I know or at least suspect crosses my boundaries, I will often agree to it to prevent any issues in the moment. If the situation actually crosses my boundaries I keep it to myself and it comes out in a damaging way later.

@Madaraismyspiritanimal Hello there friend! I really like your response! I feel boundaries are important too and I can relate to you when you say you just agree with people crossing your boundaries to "keep the peace" you could say. I used to do the same thing until I realized I really needed to take boundaries more seriously! Thank you for checking in with me!

@baylinAnderson123

Yeah deep down I know guarding my boundaries is gonna be better for me long term, but I often don't, in part to keep the peace, but also cause I'm afraid people might mock me for the boundaries I set.

It's definitely something I'm trying to work on, but it's hard when so many systems from inside me seem to work to achieve the opposite. If that makes any sense

Figuring out my own boundaries for myself and others was the first step I took in my healing process. First, they were rigid but gradually became more flexible throughout the year. If anyone is disrespecting your boundaries, they are disrespecting you! ♡
