Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Thursday 24th November 2017
Happy Friday,
Thanks for joining. If you could give a person with PTSD, Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Bipolar a present what would it be and why? Try giving something that would help them cope. I'll give you six examples.
1.Due to PTSD many people struggle to sleep well. Get them a memory foam pad will help with the the long nights of bad dreams, recurring dreams and night sweats.
2. A Fidget Spinner would curve anxiety by giving your hands an activity to complete.
3. A Journal- Its a must have tool. Through my experience patients are encouraged to write down their thoughts.
4. Buy someone a gift certificate from their favorite store. Tell them the certificate is for their favorite perfume. The right perfume is able to instantly calms you. It gives you feelings of being happy.
5. A subscription to the Headspace app would help you manage your mental health. Meditation is a positive outlet.
6. Nausea lollipops. Anxiety is prone to cause us to feel nauseous. These lollipop will help calm your stomach
What would you give someone with a mental health problem for Christmas? Why? Think in terms of what items help you cope? List three gifts.

@Softwhispers
I would give them a puppy, or gift certificate to a shelter or pet shop so they could pick out their own. If I had the money, I would get someone w/PTSD, Autism, or severe Social Anxiety a Certified Therapy Dog. That is my wish right now because my therapy dog, who I had for over 17 years died on November 5 (just a couple weeks ago).
@caterpillargirl
Ohh I'm so sorry your dog pased away. Hug!!!!
@KLM3278
Thank you, KLM. I have no family whatsoever, and haven't for many years. And, I have not been successful making & keeping friends, so my only bonds & attachments were/are with my dogs. I am all they have in this world, & they are my world...& all I really have (in addition to my faith, devotion, & relationship w/God). I still have 2 dogs, but they are not trained as therapy dogs. Both of these dogs were abandon strays I rescued/adopted, & they are very loving, faithful, & loyal buddies. But there remains a HUGE void in my heart & life w/out Boo always with me & by my side.
@caterpillargirl
I understand! Pets are such gift from God!! Hug!!! You aren't alone though! You have people here who understand. HUG
@caterpillargirl
I am so sorry about your loss. I will be thinking of you as there is such an amazing bond formed that is so healing. Hugs to you. 💛
@Compassionatelistener108
Thank you for your compassion. I miss my Aussie, Boo, tremendously.
@caterpillargirl so sorry to hear that I recently got a husky and she is the cutest thing ever and I'm already so attached I can't imagine what it feels like to lose a pet
@caterpillargirl ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@Softwhispers
Softwhispers, I'm not sure if you have faith in any particular religion, or have a belief in God, but I am a Christian & I'll be praying for you to get good rest before your surgery, and for God lift your anxities about your surgery and recovery. And for God to give you peace in your heart & mind before, during, and after your surgery. I'll also be praying for the doctor(s) & nurses performing your surgery, & asking God to give you a smooth, steady, & timely recovery. 😇💜
@Softwhispers nuasea lollipop
Hello, in addition to the gifts other members have mentioned and they are great, if I were to give a gift to someone - I would offer to give a gift of my time to spend with the person. I know in my own experience with CPTSD, I am avoided alternating with "get over it" messages from those I know (to whom I've never shared my experiences)...people are so quick to shun anyone they think less than themselves...I am more than my injuries, but don't get the chance to share that. So spending time and and just giving the opportunity to connect with another human on a regular basis, something I personally would want and don't have, I would hope that would be a gift well-wanted.
@Softwhispers Okay for the less enlightened folk we are lol what on earth is a fidget spinners appeal lol I have seen them around but I really dont get them so would love it if you would share the appeal please <3
@Softwhispers Here's to a speedy recovery and component (extraordinary even) surgeon! ❤️⛺
@melliotm Thanks last time I had surgery in the end they had to just make a temporary fix because the surgeon didn't know what he was doing the reason why I'm having to go back now
@Softwhispers Ach I'm sorry to hear that. Am crossing my fingers that this time everthing goes as it should. 🤞🏽
@Softwhispers do hope everything goes ok. Sending healing hugs
