Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Tuesday 1st May 2018
Morning all
Ever wondered why your kids wear you out...why they seem to have endless energy that leaves parents and others absolutely exhausted.
I've just been reading an interesting article that describes some research on this. Published in the journal "Frontiers in Physiology" the research compared the energy output and post-exercise recovery rates from children aged 8-12, untrained adults, and endurance athletes aged 19-27. The volunteers carried out two cycling based exercies tasks over two days, to measure their aerobic metabolism and their anaerobic capabilities. Anaerobic exercise is a high intensity but short lasting activity where the body's demand for oxygen exceeds the available supply. The body copes by using energy sources stored in muscles and produces lactic acid. Too much lactic acid results in the muscles stating to fatigue. During and after each test, heart rate, oxygen levels, acidosis and blood lactate levels were measured. This assessed how their bodies produced energy as well as how they recovered from exercise. The results were fascinatiing. In all the tests the children outperformed the adults in how much energy they had and how quickly they recovered after an activity.The conclusion being that children with this incredible source of energy will continue to exhaust the adults in their lives.Phew.. we always knew this.
How is your day going? Have you taken a big step or a small step recently? Or pop in to say hi! Love to hear from you. This is your space and a safe place. x

Heya :)
my day is going good, big things are happening in my life right now though, but nothing impossible to deal with
Have you taken a big step or a small step recently?
actually yes, i ve taking some big step (at least for me some big steps) in my life recently. i ve learned a lot about myself and my recovery, have been stopping bad old habits, and have learned how to cope lots better and became more brave and lots stronger! also i ve been taking some small steps here on 7cups towards my goals :)
wishing everyone a lovely day!
Not too bad. I didn't sleep overly well, and I've been a bit anxious today. I had some dark thoughts but I was able to recognize that they were just triggered by my being overly tired today.
Have you taken a big step or a small step recently?
I took a big step in starting going back to therapy around 3 weeks ago. It hasn't been easy, but I feel like my psychologist is a good one, and hopefully in time this will help me with moving on with my life.
I also took a small step today in facing my anxiety, by leaving the house to go pick up my medication today, even though I was feeling anxious, tired and didn't want to go. I'm glad I did though or I would have run out of my medication.
@resourcefulPond1641
So proud of you for going back to therapy! That was a huge step indeed
!
And facing your anxiety today by leaving the house, even though you didnt want to, is something you should absolutely be proud of, too! some days its very hard to even take small steps, but still you got up and got active!
sending you lots of love and wishing you a good day!
@resourcefulPond1641
I'm proud of you for taking the big step and the small step too... each one is significant...well done! Think you make a really good point about things being worse and being more easily triggered when one is tired. Its worth knowing and remembering to be self compassionate at times like this. x
@rozie My day is going quite well.
@FangsInsanity
Good to hear this.. enjoy your day! x
@rozie Thank you.
@rozie
I have had a terrible day and it feels like it will never end.
@MaschaV
Oh dear, one of those days that seem like they'll never end. I'm hoping that you are able to let the day go now, to find a gentle way to wind down.. and to be self compassionate. Hugs. x
@rozie
I don't really know how to do that
@rozie
This morning was a little bit better until I had to rush home because my neighbor just died and the police and the ambulance where needing access. My kids were crying and it is not helping me feel calm.
@rozie
Hi rozie,
I've been having a rough day. I didn't sleep well (medication I think), and I've been struggling to stay positive and get things done. I feel quite worried and concerned about money. I had a job interview today, and I have another tomorrow. I feel worried. The one tomorrow pays very little, but it's something I enjoy. There is just so much going on in my life right now.... it's so hard to know the right directions to go and decisions to make. Anyway.
Going to try to knock out some more things from my to-do list. Wish I felt better.

Okay, Im taking a short break after therapy before going back to writing my research paper, but I just had to come share this!! Im watching this show called The Librarians, and theyre going to London, and I just got like overly excited for this shot cuz literally the red encircled building is the hotel we stayed at when we went to London last summer!! 😁

@BeeLeigh Such a good show -- shame it got cancelled 😭
@rozie
Thank you for the neat facts to back up the fact children are just pure energy.
My day could be better.
It a long complicated problem that honestly has no right answer. And it is a 100% going to hurt someone either way.
Just can anyone give me advice for gaining some independence from a controlling parent because apparently moving out doesn't work. Also how do I say no without feeling guilty and also how do I not allow the manipulation to claw in to me? Also how do i make friends??? I need not to be so isolated.
hi!
aaa i haven't been on in a few days!! i've been away from home visiting a friend for my birthday (the 29th)! most of the trip was great, but at the end on the way home it just fell apart. i smashed my finger in the car door, and then my knee dislocated and i fell down in the middle of parking lot. i ended up just sobbing my head off for 10 minutes and worrying this sweet elderly couple nearby. i felt really embarassed and guilty, honestly. i ended up really hurting my wrist, too and i'm scrapped up in some places too. i'm just a big ol mess right now haha, physically and emotionally, but i've been journalling like my therapist reccomended and it seems to be helpful even if i feel like crud right now
My day is okay. I haven't taken any steps to speak of within the past few days. I might have even taken a small step back, but I'll recover it soon enough. I drew Aprodite for my World Literature class, and I realized after I was done that it looked a lot like the person that caused my trauma, so I now hate that drawing in every way. I turned it in today easily and managed to pretend I liked it and was proud of the seven hours of work, but I was just kinda ready to stop looking at it.
