Traumatic Experiences Daily Checkin - Tuesday 12th December 2017
Hey Everyone
I hope your day is as good as it can be for you. Our lovely Rosie is away this week, which is why this checkin post has been posted late today but we hope you will still share with us, how your days going and how things are for you generally
I have a quote for you today!!
"Positive thinking sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and can achieve the impossible." - S. A. Jefferson-Wright
How do you feel about this quote and do you feel that challenging and changing our negative ways of thinking, feeling and believing could open up doors for us that we never thought were possible? What things have you achieved in your life, big or small that you once felt were impossible?
Feel free to take part in responding to these questions related to the quote, or if you dont wish to thats okay too!
We'd still love to hear from you today

moving to the positive side of the track, for as long as I can
@scarletPear1945
Yay for the positive side! Thats a great quote isnt it? Worth repeating I reckon:
Positive thinking sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and can achieve the impossible
Maybe what we seek feels out of reach, sometimes impossible to achieve, and can be so hard to pinpoint. But focusing on the positive can lead us to a more serene place, a place where we feel capable of setting our mind to something and achieving it, where we feel deserving of positive outcomes.
Lets hang out on that positive side of the track for as long as we can, see who we can get to join us, and find our serenity together.

Sounds like a plan GREAT![]()
@DeborahUK
Hello
how are u today? I thank you so much
What are you doing this week?
@scarletPear1945
Hi Pear
Phew! Last minute Christmas prep mainly. How about you? Do you celebrate Xmas?
@scarletPear1945 Sounding good Scarlet, so what positive things or ways do you feel your striving to achieve for youself ?
@dancingRainbow45
ACCEPTANCE
LOOKING PAST WHAT OTHERS THINK OF ME
This is where I start. STEP BY STEP
@scarletPear1945 Self acceptance and or acceptance of what happened? I think this is a massive thing to be striving for accepting yourself for who you are, warts and all and disregarding what others thing. It matters not what they think for they are not living your life, and those who care for you will not try and change you and will care and love you for who you are
But when you go through trauma your self worth takes a battering and very often we find it hard to accept who we are regardless of our life experiences and we are very much affected by how others may view us, and yet what we think and feel is the most important thing, not what others perceive us to be about
Yep and baby steps will help you get there
@dancingRainbow45
great
I'm sorry not feeling very positive today. Maybe tomorrow.
@Longday08
I'm sorry today's been rough! We're all here to support you through this time, the path to recovery is long but you're not walking it alone!
Very bad mental health day. I feel it weighing on me, and I'm blaming failures in my romantic life on my trauma. Yesterday I was extremely anxious, and the amount of anxious energy left me so exhausted. I'm just trying to hold on for now.
I know that at one point in my life I was pretty sure I would never have any sense of normalcy or accomplishment in my life. I was pretty sure that someone would keep coming along and destroy anything I tried to achieve or attain.
Ive begun to realize that while some concrete events have happened to change this, ultimately, my frame of mind is what will define how my life is. I have not accomplished the same goals I had pictured in my youth, but I have an accomplished career. I was able to complete intensive schooling as a single parent during a traumatic period of time with minimal support. I am very proud of this as I almost gave up and quit multiple times.
Today has been a bit of a struggle. Ive been struggling with feeling withdrawn and detached the last few days and it usually takes me a while to figure out what exactly is going on / what feelings are attached to this. My partner is very supportive of me but at the same time very sensitive to when this happens as it leaves him feeling very disconnected . I had been doing much better with this for the last month or so and now Im not sure why Im slipping again.
Hi. I've found that, sometimes, I need to remove myself from a conversation or people. Some people are not considerate of my triggers (and that's ok) so I politely excuse myself and find something else to get involved in.
Look what came today!!! 😁🎄☃️🎁🎅🏼

I'll be going to art therapy tomorrow after a 6 months break and I'm quite anxious about it.On the other hand, I've found some inner peace and don't feel as all over the place as before.It feels like some changes are happening so mind is quite confused where to turn, in which direction and such but I think the picture will get clearer very soon.
@Morfo66 Hey Morfo, I hope the art therapy session goes well for you tomorrow. Are you anxious because you've had a break from this or is there something specific concerning you about attending? Im glad you've managed to find some inner peace for yourself right now and feel perhaps more in control of things. Sometimes when change happens, it can fill us with lots of anxieties and fears and sometimes we can be prone to building these out ourselves but find in the end, things are not usually as bad as we imagined. Try and listen to your gut instinct about how you feel about things and go with that.
@dancingRainbow45
aww. thanks!you always make me smile and feel like all is going to be ok!^^ it's more about opening up once again and getting used to it all.also...this time it will be individually not in a group and I had issues with 1on1 therapy before.
@Morfo66 aaawww good that I can raise a smile admist your worries
You may find invididual art therapy benefits you more than perhaps a group but if you've had issues with one to one before than its understandable that you may have concerns. I dont know if this art therapist is the same person you had issues with before, but if its someone new, perhaps try and see that whilst one person may have caused you problems, there could be 5 others who actually enable you to grow and benefit far more. I did art therapy a long time ago, and I tried in a group but hated it and though I hated art therapy full stop (because the art therapist was too good even if I coloured the whole page black to stop her digging or getting to close, she would still know what was going on with me lol) one to one for me felt much safer. Try and share your concerns with the therapist Morfo if you feel it could help you, and they may be able to allay some of your worries. What do you think?
@dancingRainbow45
yeah, they see trough and soul read a person quite heavily indeed xD I, to my own amazement, felt very safe and good in group.the ways she used and people in it was amazing but that 3months thing was too intense on me.I didn't have problems with this therapist but previous one who wasn't art therapist but was therapist.so I need that creative stimuli I suppose, it works wonders.I just feel very...like I've nowhere to hide, feel exposed on 1on1 so that's what a bit scary but I know I'll be in good hands, like her lots, makes me feel calm and doesn't make any fast moves or pressure on me.it's just she dug up something within me accidentally and I was too surprised so defenses switched on and went away because she offered 1on1 already after the group ended but needed time to muster courage to get back after that one if that makes any sense.btw, thanks for sharing your experiences!means a world!:)
today feeling a bit under the weather and a bit spacey
