Being lied to

My boyfriend said he's gonna meet a guy friend of his but instead he met with a girl who had a crush on him.

He never told me that he met her but when i was going through his phone i saw some deleted selfies of them and some photos of that girl he met that day. Then when i asked about him did you hang out with a girl in the previous days and he said "no" directly and when i asked can you swear it, he said that he swears. What should I do now? Now im wondering what else he lied about and it’s driving me crazy 😞😞

I am sorry that happened! You deserve to be in a relationship where there's trust. It sounds like you can't trust him. What are you wanting to do?

You did not confront him that you knew?

you saw photos and if he thinks you bought this lie it makes it easier to lie again....

in a situation like this what are you waiting for  hoping it is not true he lied and not having to face a fight / a breakup Stand up for yourself and ask for the truth.

I have to say, I'd be honest and confront him about his lies, trust and communication are vital and it only gets worse the more you overthink it 💜

girl im so sorry this happened. no joke the same exact thing happened to me and i chose the route of forgiveness and stayed in the relationship. i think thats the biggest mistake. i suggest you leave while you can bc it starts off with something small like this and the problem will get worse. trust me, you need to leave that situation asap.

I understand how upsetting and confusing this situation must feel. Let’s consider possible explanations, and then discuss what you might do next.

While the facts are concerning, there are a few possible scenarios to consider:

  • Innocent Explanation: It’s possible he met his guy friend and the girl happened to be there (for example, at a group event or a photoshoot). Maybe he didn’t think it was important or didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.

  • Intentional Deception: He may have intentionally lied to avoid conflict or because he knew you’d be upset about him spending time with this particular girl.

  • Partial Truth: He might have met both his guy friend and the girl, but chose to only mention the guy friend.

Relationships are built on trust and communication. It’s normal to feel hurt and anxious when trust is broken. Take a moment to process your emotions before having a conversation. Give him a chance to explain for the full story about what happened that day, who was there, and why he didn’t tell you the truth. Has he lied before, or is this the first time? A single mistake is different from a pattern of dishonesty.

Whenever I had been in a relationship, I chose to stick to some unwritten rules:

Neither me, nor my partner are going to look up each other's phones (it's a violation of privacy).

We are not supposed to meet our ex spouse or past crush behind the other's back (or in bright daylight, without letting your partner know).

We are going to be open and transparent about it when meeting our past significant other is accidental or connected with legal, parenting, social or professional issues.

We are never intentionally lying to each other about our actions or intentions.

It looks like in this situation several red lines were crossed...

I remember talking to you last winter, and I see you re-posted this thread from another forum section, checking people's opinions, so it seems the matter is very important to you.

But the crucial question is, I believe: What YOU are going to do?

You should talk to him about this and tell him to confess everything he's ever done and then just leave him. You deserve a guy who loves you not the one who lies to you on your face.

@braveCircle6098 i’m so sorry you're going through this. that sounds so messed up, especially the part where he swore he didn’t meet her. it’s totally valid that you feel like you're going crazy. literally anyone would. i think the worst part is the lying, not even the girl. if he can lie about that, it makes sense you're wondering what else he’s not telling you. honestly, if i were in your place, i'd feel the same like i can’t trust anything anymore. the fact that he didn’t just meet the girl, but also lied and swore he didn’t, is a huge red flag, i’d say. it’s not even just about the girl, it’s the choice to lie and hide it. i think you need to ask yourself if this is something you can ever fully trust again. and if you do talk to him, make it clear that it’s not the meetup that hurts the most, it’s the dishonesty. whatever you decide, just don’t ignore how this made you feel. you deserve someone who respects you enough to be real. also, always listen to your gut feeling, it’s always correct.
