The first time I told my parents that I’m depressed is like 10 years ago when I was in high school. They refused to accept the fact that I’m depressed. At that same night, my mom tried to hang herself, she kept saying she felt like a bad mom. And I have no idea how to stop her so I be like sorry for saying I was depressed. I’m not I’m just having a tantrum. And she seems to calm down and put herself to sleep. From that moment on I never ever dare to tell her anything cuz she will once again make it all about herself and make me feel like the worst daughter ever. Last night I tried to tell her how the way she responded to me hurt me deeply, and she lost it once again. I don’t think they cares at all, they never wanna be there to support me through this. They definitely contribute to my mental illness but when I legit need help they just being super narcissist to make it all about themselves. Like I had to swallow my despair to comfort them that I’m totally fine so they feel like the greatest parents ever. I went to my room crying all night. All they do is some kinda emotional manipulation. I hate living in here, I hate them to some extent. I feel so alone.

Im really sorry that they treated you that way. They shouldn’t have let their feelings get in the way of their daughter- just know you will leave some day and things can and will get better.

thank you as what you posted here we thought we was only one that delt with this type of issue. for us from a very very young age we was mom emotional support we really had none. we was self harming from a toddler up  and no one seemed to even see it.  sometime we got yelled at for it even. like you when we was in high school we tried to say we was depressed to them. but they say pull your self up by boot strings and other things like that.  my family not really believe in mental health issues they see it as being weak . so even after we lost kids and well had been in mental health  hospital. mom made it about her she  call others to get the poor her thing and even told others she never met before that i was her mentally ill daughter. she even told them we self harmed ect. she make everything about her never about me.

so yes we get what you saying too. even at age 54yr my mom still trys doing this too. 7 1/2 years ago that was part of the reason we moved. mom was always  codependent  on us. this was hard to hear first time we was told that, but now makes since too. hope you be safe and getting the help you deserve  now too

omg i get this so much I like can't tell my parents my emotions bc they just think I'm faking it to not go to school over something or they think I'm totally overreacting even if it is a super big deal for me
