One year ago already, I became a listener on seven cups and the amazing and inspiring people I have met since then and I have also learnt so much about myself and id like to think, I have become a better listener since then. I'm a very shy person typically and the thing I struggle with most is seeing in myself what others see, I am critical of myself and cannot take compliments due to years if severe trauma, so hearing you all being so nice is something im learning to adjust to, accept and trust in, one day at a time 🥰💜

Congratulations on helping and supporting people on this platform for a year now! That is truly inspiring. I have only been on here for about a month and I am already feeling fulfilled and purposeful. I cannot imagine what a year on here might look/feel like.
I wanted to ask you if you have any advice or words of wisdom that you can share with me in navigating being a listener on the platform and supporting people the best way you can.
@MellowMary76 nice to meet you 😊 thanks for your kind words. What I recommend, is simply listening , creating a safe and comfortable, and non judgemental space where people feel comfortable opening up. We sometimes feel like we have to jump in and fix and solve everything but ultimately we can't, we need the person to feel heard. Set a timeline for how long you have because people get upset if you have to go suddenly. Just be you. Stick to your boundaries. Don't feel bad sending them to another listener, if you genuinely feel they'll be better supported, no listener is better, they just have different experiences and personalities and different people click. Don't take it personally if people drop out of the chat or have you blocked before you chat, they might want someone who is male or their nationality, you just don't know. And dont exhaust yourself taking too many chats, you need to be mindful of how you feel yourself to be able to be genuinely there for others 🥰💜
