1. My deadname is a good name! My dad picked it out when he was 10, and when he met my mom at 16 she loved it too, and they used it for their firstborn, me! I think it's a cute story, and I like the name- but not for me.
   
   You know, this thread has been interesting to me for many reasons. Chiefly among them has been the concept of deadnames, which I was wholly unaware of beforehand. Oddly enough, through my own situation, I can also personally identify with them. But you're right, that is a cute story :)
   
   
2. My chosen name is Elliot, which I love. It's somewhat similar to my birth name, and it's softer than most stereotypical male names
   
   This is another thing that I have learned through this thread, that how a name sounds phonetically can be just as important. Thank you for your insight. :)

I'm glad that you grew to like your name despite hearing it yelled; that's something I'm still working on. And subjectively, I wish mine had a deeper meaning as well. 😅

I have been called with my nicknames so hearing my real name is kind of annoying since they say it wrong and not really nice to hear it but yeah i like my name.I think its beautiful and unique.

It's been interesting to note this trend in this topic of given name pronunciations juxtaposed with nicknames. I can definitely see why nicknames would be preferable in these contexts. :)

Didn’t read the whole thing (lousy ADHD). It’s okay; spelled the same in Spanish as in English, a little unique.

I love my name! It’s basic, but I could have been given another one that was more complicated or hard to pronounce or spell.

My first name means shining light and I love it honestly. 🧡 The pronunciation of my name is the tricky part. Most of my life people say it wrong so I roll with it yet over the most recent years I correct them and say it with vigor. I got tired of my nick names and wanted to actually hear my own name. I am proud of my name.

I feel like I don't really identify with my name. Probably it's because I've been called many different nicknames (mostly my father's surname). That's make me confuse because I do respond when they call any of my name but I don't see myself on any of them

I can definitely see how having that many nicknames would bring that kinda confusion, as well as perhaps not being able to as strongly identify with one particular name.

Do you have a preferred name out of all those names you've been called?

For what it's worth, I can relate to your situation in regards to your names.

My first name was chosen by my father, who left the family after getting remarried following my parents' divorce. My middle name is his first name (😁) and my surname, of course, is his as well. So definitely a recurring theme here, haha.

Hello! I have a lot of view points about my name. My name was carried down and I am the 5th person in my family to have it. My name is considered and older person's name and does not fall in line with the times. While I like my name because of it's uniqueness, I did not pass it down to my oldest daughter. I opted for something that rhymed with my name instead. I wanted her to have my name but also to be able to allow her her own individuality and to be able to fit in with the changing times and people in them.

I think that's a really interesting history with your name as well as a very considerate thing that you did for your daughter. As someone who really wasn't allowed to be myself as a child, I feel that one of the greatest gifts a parent *can* give a child is to allow them to be the individual that they are. Kudos to you on that. :)

Because of my name's meaning (I won't say what it means) I feel a sense of strength and ability to overcome so many obstacles. I also did not like my name always. I was made fun of for having an "old lady" name a lot as a kid. I have always associated age with wisdom, even so, and this phase of me not liking my name did not last long. I do think that our name's play a large role in who we become as we grow through life.

I think it's really cool that you have this kind of association with your name. And I agree, I do feel like our names play that role for us throughout our lives.

That's really awesome and I don't think it can be overstated just how important it is for parents to love their children. And I believe that so much of that initial love is passed down through our names. :)
