AI images of Women

Is anyone else disturbed by all the AI images used in the dating ads here?

All too often we aren't treated like actual people but instead are objectified and reduced.

When computer generated digital objects are literally being used to advertise dating sites I think it really shows a lack of equitable relationships.

I have not seen those, that sounds frustrating

@AffyAvo honestly i'm quite worried about AI's impact of women's lives in more than one way, with different levels of harmful. Advertising dating apps with AI generated images of women is certainly one of those, it promotes the idea that women are a "standardized product" that should look a certain way and act in a certain way to be desirable, and yes it's quite objectifying and dehumanizing.
Did you find those ads here on 7 Cups? I've never come across those here, but that's quite disturbing

@Aayla I'm bombarded with them here.

I have been reporting these since 7cups put ads on the site.

@AffyAvo wow, that's worrying on a website that caters to people that struggle with mental health, including body image issues and a rough confrontation with social expectations. I hope your reports will eventually get adressed. I'll keep my eyes open to see if I stumble across them too.

@AffyAvo

Oh!
you are totally right...

since this website caters to people that could potentially have body image issues...having those AI generated pictures of unrealistic women definitely doesn't help in the slightest.
even ignoring that though...its quite disheartening to know that the view of an average woman is morphing into whatever beauty standard that it, because of AI...

@AffyAvo

Hi, AffyAvo,

AI in general is informed from mainstream patriarchal stream of information.

I have found a way around the advertising.

I go into 7 cups using browser Duck Duck Go, which has a built in quash smash for advertising.

Where the adverts used to flash up, disturbing me to the extent that I thought of gracefully exiting from 7 cups forever without even telling anyone,  like seriously my mental health doesn't need all that disruption and annoyance, this entry way through Duck Duck Go has at least made it tolerable, with empty spaces where the adverts are trying to enter, and less stress overall on my mental health.

(At least it's working so far. When or if it stops working, then you will not see me again on this site and you will know why.)

Love and Courage,

Cal

@CalmRosebud Thanks!

I know it's an option to not see them myself, but that doesn't change the fact they are present. I find it upsetting and a huge disappointment that 7cups is allowing these ads plus others (like gambling sites which I also see plenty of) that don't fit the values and culture of what 7cups claims to have and actually oppose the support of communities that are offered.

So true. However, I believe this decision was made for financial reasons, so, to me, as far as the choices I can control, it comes down to finding a way around the advertising, or (again for me) gracefully exiting. Perhaps they will listen to you about accepting only advertising that fits with 7 cups values. I hope so. In my personal experience, I have found that choosing my battles is important for my mental health. I hope they read what you said and consider the sorts of advertising they are accepting, for the sake of people on here. I will wait, but not hold my breath. And, I support you lifting your voice and saying something.
