Eyes and shift...

Eyes....

They tell you the state of your heart....

And I've had a shift.....

20s. My eyes had a twinkle...... the joy and excitement of the beginning of youth and wonder of dreams.

30s.... my eyes arent in despair.... but they arent twinkling either.....

They carry the peace of compassion and resilience and courage and grace of acceptance.

Yes Ive lost something.

But Ive found something else...

And its a transition I will not forget.

In my country there is an expression like "to cross the line of shadow", often used to describe the experience of people turning 30. It's like feeling no longer invincible or immortal.

Reportedly, the words were taken from Joseph Conrad's novel called "The Shadow-Line", which I should read at least for two reasons: the author is one of a few Polish writers known worldwide; also, for years I had been living by the street named for him (yes, here in Poland all streets have names, not numbers).

Recently, when talking to my female friend who is 30+, I described this jocularly and, I am afraid, a little bit sarcastically as: this a dangerous age, when you are still capable of doing silly things as if you were 18 or 20 (what, I must humbly admit, never stops with age). And still not yet as experienced and beaten by life like when you are in your 40s, or not as serene as in your 50s.

Still, I would have never go back to my early thirties...

What happened to my eyes? Unfortunately, my sharp eyesight deteriorated with age, and I usually have to use glasses when I read now. But what haven't changed through half of a century, since I was three, is I am still curious of the world and of the future that sprouts in the very front of my eyes.

I like the phrase you used .. the feeling youre no longer invincible ...

Its like that.. 20s its like oh I want this thing so of course I will get it, what's the problem? And then come in the hundreds of obstacles that change you in all these different ways you didnt imagine...

The faith and hope still remains....

But you slow down, change your navigation methods....

There are moments that light up my eyes. But the glow is different.....it will never be the same as it once was and I evidently remember it

maybe thats not bad. I lived that. I live this now. Lucky to experience both.

Looking forward to surprises that life ahead is holding.

But my observation doesnt just apply to me. I see it in so many people. The spark of the youthful eyes is gone but its replaced with another kind of enlightenment. Its like a journey from innocence to wisdom....

I wouldn't go back in time either. It was time well spent ... and there is only gratitude ❤️

For me getting older 😁 wasnt a bad thing, it was freeing, I no longer worry about what the future holds, I embrace today, I don't care about other people's opinions, I've learnt not to get caught up in drama or swear the little things. Things pass. Age is just a number and the enjoy everything I can and don't let it hold me back. Id say my eyes have a flicker of mischief in them 🥰

That's a famous Kiara from my part of the world. Their wedding inspires love .... how they're looking at each other.

I envision the same joy for my friend Kiara ... I.e. You!! ❤️

Agree with you, and may be that's the beauty of it. I think my eyes were either confident or excited when I was young,,, now I feel there's some intensity.

@Creamyyy

It's probably a good thing that we can not see into our own eyes like someone else would. Your eyes could tell so much about you. I would be frightened to view mine from the outside. I know how I feel on the inside. Broken, a failure, an outcast, empty, lonely, etc.....
