@amiablePeace77
Hi, Peace,
I think I would say to pay attention to their feelings and emotions and write them down. That includes feeling wrong, guilty, grief, as well as all the good feelings and emotions. They might not be in an environment to speak their feelings or show their emotions, so writing them down might be the safest.
@amiablePeace77 i would say to keep loved ones close and cherish relationships
@peachNorth2287
Good point. People of all ages benefit from a supportive network and when this consists of loved ones it's even stronger! Young people though need more support since they have less experience in my view.
@peachNorth2287
I agree, you never get another chance with loved ones!
@amiablePeace77 If a young person would ask you what they could do to age emotionally and mentally in a healthy way, what would you suggest?
I would say spend time every day consciously helping other people. The source of most of my problems are focusing on what I expect to get or have. When I focus on helping others, I realize there are 8 billion people in this world and they all want to be happy just like me. That makes me a little less self centered and a little more happy.
@soulsings
Helping others can be very rewarding for sure. It gives meaning in life and that is something very important to have.
@soulsings
Sometimes the simplest joy is helping others find their joy
@BrokenWingsThatFlew I agree.
Talk less, listen more... with intention. We were give two ears and one mouth...use them in that proportion.
Keep in mind, how you would like to be treated and treat people likewise. People want to be loved, shown love just as much as you do... might have to search for the right ways to do that sometimes, but the reward can be so fulfilling.
Love can make one feel at home where ever they are. Spread that feeling.
Great, thought-provoking prompt. I would say to the youth, take care of each other, lean on each other when times are rough, laugh together when you feel joy! Find elders who resonate with you and allow them to tell you stories, this way each generation learns from each other.
@PatienceImpatiens
Great ideas, creating a support network by helping each other can make it easier to deal with challenges.
@amiablePeace77
Do you guys have any advice on how to create that support network? It seems pretty tough at my school since everyone does their own thing and i suck at socializing
@ayeyaeyaaaaaaaa
It's tough when everyone just focuses on their own stuff, especially when socializing is not that easy for you. I believe joining after class courses or events can help to establish connections with others. Participating in projects might be a good way too to bond with others. Do you have any after school clubs?
@amiablePeace77
I've tried after school clubs before but even on that level i have trouble getting into a group and trouble talking, ive even ended up with some of them mocking me for trying to fit in before
@ayeyaeyaaaaaaaa
Thanks for sharing and being honest about what changes you'd like to see. It takes a lot of self-awareness to realize that.
Keep trying in different environments with different people, even if you aren't getting the results that you want. You're still making progress and I'm sure that some people there are going to be friendly and inclusive. Sometimes there are negative people in a group. Don't worry about them, they're not happy with themselves and are just projecting their issues.
In my experience joining a group in an activity that I like really helps. So you can join an art group if you like to draw/paint, a book club if you like reading, language club if you want to learn a new language. That way even if the people aren't the greatest, you can focus on yourself and the task at hand. Best of luck - you got this! ☀️
I love this prompt! I would say to the youth to close your devices for awhile and try to have a hearty laugh in real life. You have more in common with your peers than you think, and whatever hardships life has thrown at you, life is more bountiful and caring than you realize. You can be a part of creating that, with your energy and youth. Also, I would say, learn to notice yourself. HALT when you are hungry, angry, lonely or tired. Take care of the underlying needs, so your brain and body can flourish. Finally, love ♥️and courage🦁 vi💜
I would suggest to make sure you have both some quality you Time and quality social time with family and friends, don’t hold your feelings in there are people in the world who do care and want to listen, and always remember you are important, unique and special, an most of all you matter and even if it feels like it you’re not .
My advice would be as follows:
- Strictly limit your time spent on the Internet, & particularly on so-called social media. Current rates of depression & angst among young people only shot up after the emergence of smartphones, *** & other socmed platforms. That is no accident. Remember that people you only see online can be good acquaintances but they are rarely true friends; friends are those you get to know in person. Remember that "likes", upvotes & downvotes on posts don't really mean much. Remember that of all the people you see who are apparently happier/better-looking/etc. than you, almost all of that is pretense--few people share their private sorrows or unfiltered faces online. There is no substitute for living in the real world.
- Get enough sleep. Every night. How much depends on the person but sleep deprivation does not help anyone. It's easy to substitute a cup of coffee for a few hours of shuteye when you're young, but the older you get the harder it becomes & after a certain age it is impossible. If you burn your candle at both ends for too long in your youth, you will pay for it later. I can assure you of that.
- Learn how to cook. Eating the right foods & following a proper diet is much easier when you know how to prepare it & make it taste good. Cooking does not have to be complicated. There's tons of stuff online to help you get started, but I recommend a good cookbook. (Phones & laptops don't always hold up in kitchen environments! Too much heat & moisture) I recommend How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman...it's a great all-purpose reference. There's a vegetarian edition if you're into that lifestyle.
- Most importantly, don't take life any more seriously than you have to. You will avoid much needless (& pointless) rage, frustration & grief that way.
@slowdecline48
Thank you so much for sharing these detailed points! I like what you mentioned at the end about "Don't take life any more seriously than you have to". Very good point!
@amiablePeace77 You're welcome, though no one other than us will ever read it. 😆 In real life, I rarely ever give advice because those who need it will not listen & those who don't need it, already know.
One other tip for youngsters I should've included:
🔹Learn about finance & investing. It's amazing how much education is discussed in this country; the No Child Left Behind Act was passed almost 20 years ago & these days CRT/DEI doctrine is used in so many schools & universities, yet you are not taught about money & what to do with it. I wasn't either & had to learn on my own. It's way easier nowadays because we have the Internet, so there's no excuse for being ignorant. You will save yourself so much aggravation, anxiety & depression in the future if you not only save what you can out of your paycheck but buy real assets with it, & hang onto those assets for a few decades. Most people work for their money, but too many don't put their money to work for themselves-- which is investing in a nutshell. Technology has changed the game; you don't need $100,000+ to start a brokerage account anymore. There are platforms with Robo-advisor accounts you can open with as little as 10 bucks! Learn about stocks, bonds, ETFs, futures, cryptocurrency of course, maybe foreign currency exchanges if you're the adventurous type. Figuring out methods to passive income is always good.
Sources to start with: Plain Bagel (YouTube), the Wall Street Journal, Personal Finance for Dummies (book), The Intelligent Investor (book, Benjamin Graham), Investopedia.
Last but not least, memorize this saying by Warren Buffett: “If you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you will work until you die.” ...it may not be the most positive message, but it is a realistic one.
@amiablePeace77
I would suggest trying to explore and understand diverse schools of beliefs, philosophies, religions...
What are the meanings in different areas of life? What does Islam, Christianity, Atheism... Existensialism, Romantism say, what does Katy Perry say, what does Francis Cappola say...😊❤️
