@soulsings

Your mum is really blessed to have you, so many elderly feel lonely and hardly have someone to talk to.

Scrabble is a great game to keep your mind fit, used to do it a lot but tbh forgot about it. Maybe I should try again smiley

Hi there smiley, I believe that having volunteer work as part of your life gives meaning, nice to hear that you find pleasure in doing it and I am sure many people are grateful for it.

So far the 50+ room is open on Mondays, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday but there are events every day. Have you considered to join other discussions?

I wasnt sure if your question was asking what can you do or what do you do, so I chose to answer it the way it was written; what can you do.

As far as ‘what do I do I dont volunteer on a regular basis but I am trying to do so. Due to covid, many volunteer programs in my area are shut down for the time being. I have only actually worked one day at one of the volunteer jobs I have applied for. Unfortunately, some of the programs want references and I dont have any. I live a very solitary life. So, Im looking for volunteer opportunities that are open now and would consider me without references.

I have joined other discussions. Unfortunately, Ive found them unrelatable. They are frequently off topic, seem to be filled with young people, and are out of control a good deal of the time. The result is that I dont go to the other discussions anymore, or if at all, it is to see how the room is at the moment, and then usually leave.

Thanks for sharing your answer.

Sorry to hear about the difficulties you encountered in doing volunteer work, have you thought about applying for a listener here and maybe even doing an internship one day?

I am glad you feel good to join the 50+ discussions, I personally find it's a great crowd coming in for the sessions. smiley

What are three important, enjoyable, and meaningful activities you can do in a single day?

These acts should include:

1. A pleasurable activity I do alone, is having my morning coffee. I expecially enjoy it after a good nights sleep. It's a peaceful time and reflective time, before transitioning into my day.

2. A pleasurable activity I complete with others, is teaching online. Very rewarding, and it keeps me in the moment.

3. A meaningful or important act is taking time for self care,( working on making that a daily activity), as well as connecting with friends and loved ones. While that circle is small, it is very important and meaningful.

I cherish the monring. It is quiet, the sun is just beginning to rise over the horizon and the birds begin their celebraiton of the day. It is a time I do not feel pressured to accomplish anything. I just sit and listen and drink my tea.

I try to do things with others but it is difficult. No many people I know want to walk, ride a bike, hike or kayak. Most just want to sit and talk, or go out to eat, or drink. I am having a hard time finding anyone I can do things with that are healthy and active.

I call my brother eveyday as he is pretty much shut in. He cares for his elderly mother (91) and he is grossly overweight.

@xrosez, i love that you want to do things that are healthy and active. I don't know where you are in the world, but have you researched hiking clubs or biking clubs? I wish you the best.

@xrosez

Its not easy to find people who are really interested in participating in healthy activities but they exist. Have you tried to join a hiking or kayaking group. If find those people are usually more health conscious too.

Btw. thats a peaceful way to start the day.smiley

Hi Peace, I'm around at least 3 times a day doing a sort of long-term listener thing with a few regulars.

And, when I've not got video-chats booked at the moment i also attempt to get up to and take the next General Chat on my progress path.

However that has been filling up my 7cups tank so I've not been as active on the forums as before, except when the progress path dictates, like the other day lol.

Thanks for your kind words. I do get a lot out of volunteering here, and am very grateful for all the work you and the rest of the team put in.

Ds xx
