@Tyedyedbutterfly65

I agree, it does make you think, often we take people or things for granted and only if we do not have them anymore we realize their value.

@amiablePeace77This is harder than I thought it was at first. My initial thought was not a damn thing. But then I read someone elses answer and they said they would miss their son. I thought, what about my sister and brother in law who took me in: Would I miss them? To be honest, Im not super enamored with them. (They have drinking and drug problems and mental health problems just like I do.) But I would miss their company, their (most of the time) kindness, and their financial help in the form of cheaper rent. But, most of all, I would miss their cat, Chloe. It is a long story of love, a neighbor catnapping then neglecting then kicking her out, and me bumping into Chloe on a walking path, which brought her back to us. That little cat has saints in her soul and angels clinging tightly to her. I would have to jerk myself away from her to leave her.

I find when we are upset or even angry with our surroundings we easily think, just move away, nothing good here but than we realize that there is someone/something very precious we do not want to loose. Glad you found chloe.

I can understand that, it's nice to live in a multicultural environment, there is so much to learn from each other!

I'm not sure I would miss much. We've been here over 25 years and my closest friends have all moved away. My kids are 18 and 22 so my hope is that soon they will be off on their own and both want to try living somewhere new. 3,000 miles in any direction would just plant me in the middle of the ocean so unless there is a cool new Atlantis being built, not sure where I'd be.

It must have been hard for you to see everyone leaving. Hope you made some new friends.

@amiablePeace77 Thanks, I do talk on the phone often with everyone, but I do miss my best friend of 15 years most. We had such good times and so many laughs that it kept both of us emotionally healthier. She just left a few months ago so we are trying to keep the laughter going. After 50, things are a lot funnier since we all have such strange events occur and so much to compare too.

Funny that you should pose this question. My adult daughter and I want to relocate from the deep south to the mountains of WVa. There's been many discussions about what to take with us and what to leave behind (not just material items, but emotional ties as well).

I was born and raised in the county I now live in. I think I will miss the security of knowing where I am. For example: I remember when the Mall was on Cherry Road (it's a parking lot now) and I remember when the current Mall was nothing but am empty field. I was born in the old hospital (it closed but still stands). My daughters were born in the new hospital (almost 30 years ago). I can tell someone how to get to either with my eyes closed. I KNOW this place. Its filled with the memories of my life here.

With that being said, if I could afford to pack up today and leave this county behind, I would do it so fast your head would spin, lol. My knees knocking and crying my eyes out (LOL) I'm SO ready to be gone from this place.

Sometimes we just need to leave to move forward, I hope you will be able to move very soon. It's a big change but I am sure that many good things will be waiting for you too.

I think we find a place we feel comfortable. Having to find some other place it is hard to feel you are at home.

@soulsings

I think a different place, as much as one feels "home" there, will never give you some of the feelings you could experience at home, this very typical home-like feeling.
