Yes, I have a penpal that is about 36 years younger than me.  We just recently revealed our ages to each other so I don't know if it is problematic or not, yet.

Idk if significantly younger or older than me but older than me, possibly, and younger than me, I think so but tbh I don’t really know. The people I’m talking about aren’t actually friends of mine but we get along well enough with each other to be around each other. 

Does a gap in age make friendships challenging?

Yes if they’re ahead of me in life. While I’m happy for them and congratulate them, hug them, and we celebrate, inside it hurts. Not bc they’re getting praised but bc I’ve never gotten those praises despite deserving them and knowing I’m capable of achieving what they did bc I never got the opportunities they got.

I have a close circle of girlfriends from AA. We probably span from early 20's to 50's. I love that we all have that one common bond, because it's allowed us to get to know women of all ages. I think when you get involved in something outside of yourself, you can meet a wider range of people with common goals and interests. 

I feel like age gap in friendships make conversations less repetitive and more refreshing. Sometimes i get tired of the day to day convos and having a conversation with someone of a different age is like a little bit of change.

Most of my friends have been substantially older. Most iave passed on.

it is challenging for me to connect with friends who are not in my age group because some are parents now and some have adult problems like problems in money, problems in health, probaby more.

i'm 24 but i dont actually have big problems (thanks be to God) and that is what makes me not able to bond with people through problems. a friendship is tested and strengthened when it goes through hardships and when the friends are there for each other for support like letting them stay in their place if they have nowhere to go while trying to look for a job.

yeah it is challenging. i'm an adult but some are "adult" adults. i still think im young in my mind. young as in a kid,

One of my best friends is only 22 years old and my other best friend is 51.  I'm 35yo and all friendships have bumps in the road but the age difference has not been an issue.  Actually it keeps things interesting and to hear the difference in the times is pretty wild. A friend is a friend no matter the age all friendships can be rocky but we still love each other.
