User Profile: pamharley003

Definition of Depressed: A general state of unhappiness. Low in spirit.

During the course of your lifetime, you may have experienced a state known as depression.

Depression is a medical condition that needs treatment; it does not mean you are weak or a failure. Depression can make you feel sad in life.

Symptoms of Depression:

fatigue

stuck

lack of motivation

guilt

low self-esteem

isolation

difficulty thinking

How to get out of feeling depressed:

Self-Care: begin by taking better care of yourself. You may want to change your eating habits, get more sleep at night, and exercise regularly.

Move your body: You may begin working out more, walking, walking around the block, or in a park. Physical exercises can help ease and treat a depressed mood.

Quality Sleep: Sleep is an important part of your well-being. Getting enough sleep at night helps you manage your depression. The recommended amount of sleep for adults is 7 to 8 hours.

Practicing Mindfulness: When you use meditation, mindfulness, and breathing exercises, you can fend off stress, anxiety, and depression.

Eating healthy: Eat plenty of fruits, proteins, vegetables, and fish to help reduce depression.

How can we look for signs of depression, know when you are upset, hurt, and sad? Journal writing may help you see on paper exactly how you are feeling. You may even want to get help so you can better understand how to cope with depression.

What helps you get out of a depressed mood?

What helps you get out of a depressed mood?

Walking outside, listening to psychology videos and helping others gets me out of a depressive mood usually.

@pamharley003 Not outside garden but About 11 years ago I started researching plants. Decided to do houseplants. One thing I need do is not have as many as I did back then. Had a 1 room apartment with 125 plants. How I managed to get them all in 1 room is beyond me but I do wanna start it again just not as many. A few good plants to start with is Snake, ZZ, and Golden Pothos these can be fairly ignored I normally watered them once a month. I once went away for 3 months and returned to find my ZZ and Snake were still alive where the pothos tho alive needed some TLC to get back on its feet.

@amiablePeace77 I always had it difficult. I was around a parent who always verbally spoke depressive comments against herself so for me it was constant 24/7 even when I tried joking it came out depressive. I think having tools and working on changing the mindset. I went into a day program where I stayed for many years through it I learned meditation, affirmations, deep muscle relaxation, cupping. Having tools can help a lot to where I cant say how long its been now since I havent been depressed. Its been several years now. If I pick up any signals at all I allow myself to feel my feelings. I put a limit on how long I will let the thought/situation reside in my head which can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 72 hours. Normally it doesnt last 72 hours as I will use the tools as well as I have one person I will pick up and call. I pray my rosary and relax my mind by making sure to remember everything I am grateful for which there is always somethin’ to be grateful for even if it seems at the time its not but really is if we take time to look inside us. Music, writing, and watching shows I enjoyed in the past these are all things I use that keep depression from living within me.

@amiablePeace77 Thanks. It can be tough at times. Things can be going great and you let down your guard even for a second thinking you no longer need use those tools but you do. Each and every day regardless how good things are going some tool must be used. I believe we can all overcome it but we must be dedicated in putting in the work it takes to do it. It may not be 100% golden perfect but the more the tools are used it gets easier. It took me years in program to even get 2 tools in working order. So imagine how long it took to get the rest.

When I recognise my mood is slipping.

I immediately take steps to not sink any deeper.

Talking it out.

A nice cup of tea.

A shower.

A long walk.

Not letting things fester or escalate 💖

What helps you get out of a depressed mood?
For me, I need to get out and walk. put my headphones on, have my music and sometimes my walk can be 20 minutes or up to an hour and a half. It really depends on how depressed I am feeling. Definitely exercise, over the past almost 2 years, that is one thing I have kept at and it does wonders.

Other times, I just want to anybody and everybody laydown and just close my eyes and go to sleep.

I tried meditation but quickly found out that it is not for me, I cannot sit still long enough. That's probably why I could never get into reading.

That is easier said than done, a lot of times it's very hard to stop my mind from over thinking.

Yes, I do agree, our minds can race and it's not easy at all, but cutting things off at the root works best for me 💚🥰

In a sad mood I try to look at the positives in life and sometimes question my over-pessimistic thinking. Instead of looking at everything in a negative lens I call myself out

For me I think just start doing something small (like cleaning my desk, or even taking a shower) helped me to slightly get out of the state. I’m not sure journaling actually helped me but it did kind of let me clear and organise what my feelings were

@Sleepyghost0

Journaling allowed me to write down the areas needing to be worked on. It also gave me pointers to write down of how I want something to change. I find journalling by everyone is how they use it to their advantage.

@pamharley003

Let’s start with the what didn’t help

what didn’t help me was people suggesting things that was not viable due to responsibilities.

what did help was the more recently  overlooked age old thing that is time. It’s not what  people want, it’s not an easy way out but after a period of time what you feel now is impossible to still feel forever. Time takes time.

what also helped with time is building a desire and ability to control thoughts. Nobody understands the working of a brain with all the technology available . What is known is the power of thought. Immediately it isn’t used wisely when depressed but if you read this then you are looking to overcome depression.

Your thoughts have more power than you know.

Controlling thoughts.. it can help
