How to overcome loneliness as we grow older
As we grow older we begin to start noticing we are alone in life, children grow up and move away, we retire from employment, move away to another state, and our friends pass on. We begin to notice we are alone in our life because of this, some people can adjust while others it is hard not having people constantly around you.
Social interactions and loneliness is seen all over the world. People who are growing older want to stay active just like we did growing up. We want to still go out shopping even if it is alone, interact with the friends we do have left, and visit our children who now have families of their own. We may want to travel now that we have the time to visit places, go on cruises, and stay active physically.
Here are some ways we can stay active in our life:
Keep a dedicated time for others: Keep a time and day when we spend time chatting with family who may not live close by or a friend we grew up knowing. Maybe a phone call everyday or once a week can keep you from feeling lonely.
Keep a routine: Keep a routine daily of things to do, working out whether walking or a light exercise at home. Keep a routine of things to be doing so you do not feel alone.
Reconnecting with our past: We can keep in contact with friends we grew up with through social media. Keep the bond we had growing up to last into our lives.
We can also engage in volunteering in our communities such as:
Volunteer at senior citizen or assisted living places: By doing this it is great mentally for you and those who may not always have others around because of social enviroment changes.
Volunteering at local places: We can volunteer at churches, schools and library groups needing additional help.

You brought up some really good points. I think volunteering is a great way to help stop loneliness and feeling isolated as we get older. I also believe we shouldn't wait until we're old to reach out. Instead, we should work on keeping and nurturing the good, supportive relationships we already have.

For someone like myself, who has been an introvert all my life. These things do not come easy, I barely make conversation with my neighbour's and when I do it's usually forced by my wife, becomes idol chit chat and a lot of awkward moments.
@QuietByNature for me online here at 7 Cups fulfills some social needs.

7Cups occupies my mind some of the time but since leaving work and the one friend I had there. Life seems empty, no one there for that face to face talk. Sure we text every so often but it seems there's no time to actually talk.

I think it's beneficial to find meaningful activities in your life and doing them with friends, family, or even meeting new people during these activities.
Like others, I also agree on volunteering. There can be many volunteering opportunities in some communities.

@pamharley003 I use to get extremerly lonely but someone entered my life of whom I was wit for many years and despite fact he has been deceased now for close to 7 years the love and acceptance he gave me I take those memories wit me every day and I know between him and God as well as those loved ones gone befoah me including some still alive dat I am never ever alone. Its remembering the good memories and being grateful each and every day for every little and big thing thats happened in my life.
